Healthcare policy isn’t just theory: it’s lived, it’s raw and it’s traumatic. Finding my mother lifeless 6 years ago was a moment I will never forget, and that pain is all too familiar across the 9th District. We need people in Congress who will fight with the fire I’ve had inside me since that day.

In this race I bring unique lived experiences and legislative accomplishments that no one else has.

We celebrate Black History Month now and always. As the first Black person to serve as State Senator of the 7th District and a member of the Illinois Black Legislative Caucus, I will continue to fight to preserve, remember, and advance Black excellence in all its forms.

Canvassing while Black is NOT a crime, something I had to remind one of my neighbors AND the police last Friday.

LEGISLATIVE RECEIPTS: In the IL Senate, I passed legislation that created the medical debt relief program which has erased $1.1 billion of medical debt from 520,000 Illinois residents!

Medical debt and healthcare for all is a personal issue for me — and one I will step up the fight for in Congress.

These systems are the lifeblood of families across the 9th District: that’s why I was proud to help lead the charge to put $1.5 billion into public transit last Oct.

That’s also why I’m running for Congress, to add a fresh voice + a national champion to the fight for better public transportation!

I grew up on public transit in a household that never owned a car: my love for our trains and buses runs deep. A few weeks ago I took the CTA Red Line, a Pace bus, and a Pulse bus from Argyle out to Skokie to show off the 9th District’s incredible transit systems to some new friends ⬇️

Last night I received news that over $1.1 BILLION of debt has been erased for more than 500,000 Illinoisans! It is so crucial we remove the financial + mental burden of medical debt and I’m so proud of this program. More to come!
