book jacket for Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove. There is a spaceship in the upper left corner diagonally facing the corner. A spill of rainbow-colored exhaust winds its way diagonally through the frame toward the lower right corner. The title of the book is splashed across the middle of the cover in 3D lettering that also incorporates rainbow colors. A wide-open mouth with vampire fangs completes the image, with the top and bottom rows of teeth β€œeating” the title.

#Finished OF MONSTERS AND MAINFRAMES by Barbara Truelove @barbaratruelove.bsky.social and it was wonderful. A fantastic cast of wacky but heartfelt characters navigating a fast-paced plot thrumming with action, humor, and genuine caring. A lovely, crazy-ass stunner!

#Finished Saltcrop by Yume Kitasei @yumewrites.bsky.social and, as she said, it was a little different from her other booksβ€”in the best way. Infused with the warts-and-all realities of sisterhood and brimming with confident and intruiging world-building. Highly, highly recommend!

I hope you’ll give the rest a chance, even though nearly all the stories don’t feature characters from the book other than vague mentions of Flagg and Mother A. The stories do inhabit the world and many get to the heart of the prevalent themes in The Stand quite well. YMMV, of course!

Gen X is the "Gifted and Talented" generation.
If you look at anything talking about Gen X written in the 90s, it was all about promise and things to come. Expectations we so high for us, and we crashed and burned as a cultural force.

And now we just talk about that one time we drank from the hose.

a blurry picture of a person walking in a dark alleyway Alt: the titular Prince of Darkness walks among us at the doorway of Saint Goddard’s church, shot cinema vΓ©ritΓ© style through the white iron bars of a fence in the closing minutes of John Carpenter’s 1987 movie Prince of Darkness

#NowWatching John Carpenter’s ridiculously preposterous yet endlessly watchable PRINCE OF DARKNESS. Come for the laughable exposition, stay for the moody soundtrack and Donald Pleasence Donald Pleasence-ing all over the place. Jameson Parker’s moustache is also worth the watch. WONDERFUL!

This book is a jet-black 1975 Plymouth Duster with a 360 V8 and a 4-barrel carb gunning in your TBR pile, just waiting for you ease into the driver’s seat and lay tracks into the night. Could not put it down! Greasy, bleak, and fevered, but somehow also wears its heart on its sleeve.

image that shares information relaated to β€œYou beat your record reading streak” showing 144 weeks in a row and 1,000 days in a row of reading.

Almost 3 years ago, I decided to get back into reading on a regular basis and resolved to read every day for a month. I just cracked 1,000 consecutive days and more than 270 books and novellas read since that resolution.

I don’t normally make a fuss but I am really proud of myself!
