These Purple Martin nestlings are over a week old

Small purple Martin hatchlings a few days old.

Our community in Silver Spring, MD, Leisure World, has a Purple Martin club. The club set up new nesting gourds for the birds. Some have cameras in them and now we are having fun watching the hatchlings growing in them. At hatching they are bald. In a week or two they start developing feathers.

All full-time workers at Voice of America placed on leave following Trump directive President Trump directed his administration to reduce the functions of several agencies to the minimum required by law.

Not on leave really - after March 31, all are terminated. They say they will adhere to Congressional minimum requirements for the charter of the agency, but this doesnt seem to do that. www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-s...

The agency I’ve worked at for the past ten years has been closed. About 4,000 employees have been put on administrative leave. This closes Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty, and the Middle East Broadcasting Network.

Here’s what made me smile today: This morning as I came up the escalator from the subway I heard three women calling out, “Thank you for your service to the country, federal workers!” They held up a sign and waved as people came up to work in the federal buildings in the neighborhood.

Driving through southern Illinois today I saw many unkind bumper stickers for sale at a truck stop. Then I was pleased to see this in a Meijer’s store in Indianapolis. My new motto is MAKA. “Make America Kind Again.”

I think it’s just as lasting as “Freedom Fries.”
