There are the usual comments elsewhere about irresponsibility and people paying. These guys entered on a good forecast for a routine trip. Sometimes things happen. And also remember cave rescuers are volunteers, and the rescue organisations are charities. Pls support them.

Cavers safe after 30-hour rescue during Storm Amy in Wharfedale Rescue teams battled severe weather and flooding at Dowber Gill Passage in the Yorkshire Dales.

I had been watching this develop from afar and wanted to say a massive well done to all the northern cave rescue teams and others assisting. It was a huge effort in a challenging location and conditions.

A lovely morning to be in London!. And an excellent day at the Ground Engineering Sustainability & Resilience event, presenting on the @universityofleeds.bsky.social @geosolutions.bsky.social Geothermal Campus. Very uplifting to see the real enthusiasm & actions for a lower carbon industry.

I am reading them this year, aged 48, as i felt i finally should. But my controversial opinion is that they are highly over rated. Amazing description of places, a story in the sense of lots of events, but little character development, and very male.

So, yeah, very pleased indeed to be back out among the hills in the last couple of weeks. Still some more strength, flexibility and resilience to build, but things are looking up finally.

A swollen and bandaged knee on a hospital bed

The nice young doctor in A&E in Lamlash was ultimately correct in his diagnosis but it took months waiting for a scan and moving through the system for confirmation and it was late June before I could get it fixed.

In retrospect, I probably damaged the meniscus in my knee in February, while walking in North Wales, but it wasn't until the end of March, triggered by lots of ascent and descent in Scotland that things went acute.

Last week I stood atop Paglia Orba. Known as the Matterhorn of Corsica, although obviously much much easier else I would not have been there. It felt like the beginning of the end of five months of struggle, in which I have had few adventures to share on here.

Had an unexpected stab of sorrow today. Realised it was the anniversary of VJ day. 80 yrs to the day since my mum was concieved as my grandparents celebrated the end of the war. Born mid May the following year. She would have been 79 now, but passed away 10 years ago. Miss her still.

BGS has launched the UK Geothermal Platform, which provides national- to local-scale information on geothermal potential.

Geothermal technologies have the potential to decarbonise heating and cooling, supporting the energy transition to net zero in the UK.

Because each event is independent, every time Nat does the toss the chance of her winning it is still 1 in 2. But if you look back and say what was the chance of her calling correct in 8 cases, then you need to multiply the 1/2 up 8 times to get 1 in 256. But its still 50/50 tonight!

"The major problemβ€”oneΒ of the major problems, for there are severalβ€”one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
