It is disgusting that Republicans CHOSE to let SNAP benefits run out today—letting millions of kids and families go hungry for political leverage. The courts have made it clear that USDA must fund SNAP for November.

Tonight's story problem was solved by making lentil soup and resisting the urge to put on music while I chopped and stirred. Now I get dinner and a new draft out of my Saturday night.

Two leashed dogs, a terrier and a scruffy mutt, sniff a lawn ornament shaped like a sitting black cat.
A scruffy leashed mutt looks twice at a black metal cat on an ivy covered yard.
Both dogs had to examine all six of these cat silhouettes because cats are tricky.

That's my pup Zimmy! He is available for personal experiences except he'll throw up in the car on the way. Otherwise a perfect Krypto.

They can take both, btw. It isn't an either/or. The parents are always surprised when the kids ask if they can take extra toys and not extra candy. I think the kid calculus might be that they have to pay a parent tax on candy but not on toys.

I have once again handed out both candy and toys (Halloween pencils and skull erasers and bat rings etc ) and once again noticed that the non-candy is more exciting to some kids than the candy. "Are those glow in the dark dinosaurs?" Yes, yes they are.

A scruffy white mutt in a red super cape looks around to see where he's needed.
Somebody get him to a casting call! I can't believe they let a CGI dog have the role when he was right here. You just have to look past the fact that he doesn't really do cars, and he doesn't really believe in taking direction, or baths...

A ridiculously scruffy white and tan mutt models his Krypto costume(a red cape and a yellow S badge) in the autumn sun, keeping his eyes peeled for trouble.
A white and tan mutt stands on a leafy verge with the wind in his face, blowing both his ears and his super cape.
I can't help it. He's so cute.

Virginia's Senate has now passed the constitutional amendment that'd allow Dems to redistrict VA, joining House.
So Dems completed step 1: passing measure this week.
Step 2: keep the House Tuesday.
Step 3: pass this again in January.
Step 4: win a referendum in the spring.
