To be fair this whole thing is driven by my insistence on having smart things and still using the regular wall switch (although there are things you can wire into them). The Matter/Thread stuff is pretty slick and Hue have gotten their existing products onboard with it.

Me, last month: A smart bulb in the living room might be nice in the evening
Me, today: So the Pi is running Home Assistant to identify the Hue bulbs being turned on at the power switch and toggle a virtual switch which Apple Home detects and turns Adaptive Lighting on. It works about half the time

Kurt Vonnegut tells his wife he's going out to buy an envelope:
"Oh, she says, well, you're not a poor man.
You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet?
And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope.
I meet a lot of people. And see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by.
And I give them the thumbs up. And I'll ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is β€” we're here on Earth to fart around
And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around.
And it's like we're not supposed to dance at all anymore."

Why is this always so difficult? It took my half an hour to get my Sonos back on the network and inevitably ends with having to go find the Long Ethernet Cable.

There are some very important and world-changing jobs I vaguely aspire to do, but there's nothing really I want to do so much as design the pretend digital products and services that appear on TV shows. Genuinely the dream.

Good to see one with a design slant! Could you add please?

When we were kids my brother bought a little set with an exciting battlefield image on the front that turned out to be just tiny plastic sandbags.

Discovered a fantastic new site today that looks at brand identities from science fiction films. They do lovely graphic recreations and write fascinating analyses of these designs, from both in-universe and production perspectives.

Again, ask to be added if I missed you.

Trying to put together an #HCI corner of Bluesky. I've just put together a feed that tracks HCI-related posts based on certain keywords. Still new and growing, but hoping it'll help us find each other here.

Let me know if you have any keyword suggestions!
