There are still plenty of moments where I have to stop and think and mentally figure out which is left and which is right!

I don’t usually like to put on my β€œhi I’m JordanCon staff hat” but we could use the help (read: I could personally use the help) with all things social media, so if you’re interested or know anyone that is, don’t hesitate to apply or message me with any questions!

The end result is I'm left with this feeling that really, I'd rather be rereading the books. I'm not going to stop watching the show, and I'm not sure there's really a good solution to this problem, but it's something I'm definitely feeling.

And again, with the limits of television and scope of these stories, it makes sense, but it can make the payoff ring a little hollow. Perrin and Rand have both felt like they're suffering at the hands of that this season, at least to me.

There's this problem I find with a lot of adaptationsβ€” both Netflix's Avatar and Shadow and Bone in addition to WoT are great exampleβ€” that I sometimes call in my head "Just Enough" storytelling where you only get just enough scenes or information to set something up.

11.04.2025 14:57 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

And it makes sense!! The Wheel of Time is massively long with character arcs that span the entire series and while RJ's pace and prose can be meandering at times, there's a depth and nuance there that's going to be lost in bringing that on to the big screen.

11.04.2025 14:57 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Even as someone who is generally very positive on the show, I feel like it's at it's best when it's really synthesizing and coming up with new and exciting interpretations. But I think a lot of adaptations have this problem where the more you try to strictly compress, the more hollow things feel.

11.04.2025 14:57 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But that said, even without talking about the increasingly obvious colorism problem, last night's episode really encapsulated something I've been feeling all season: the closer they try to adapt the books, the more they feel like discount versions of the books.

So to preface this, I'm still really enjoying a lot of the positive qualities the show brings to the table. The less weird gender dynamics, better representation, and more complexly written villains stand out off the top of my head, but this list is not exhaustive. #WoTShowSpoilers #WoTBookSpoilers

My assumption is that's the cause of this. They felt like it would make for a more compelling character arc for her through the rest of the show. I think so far, it makes Faile an interesting counterpoint to the sympathetic Darkfriends in the show. Interested to see where this goes!

#WoTShowSpoilers We're really about to go through the "Justice for Abell" discourse but for Deira this time, huh? Deira's a tertiary character in the books, at best, so the change doesn't really bother me. I'm much more curious as to what the impact on Faile's character arc will be.

I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

Someone smarter than me pointed out that Ghibli is a visual language, not an artistic style. So while it looks correct on a surface level, it lacks the richness and depth. It's a robot muttering word salad instead of sentences.

Yeah, it's only really in retrospect that I disliked his S2 arc? A lot of why I liked it was because it felt like it was building towards his TGH finale which...... didn't really end up happening in a way that I personally found satisfactory.

If you don't like a choice, say that but stop assigning motives to the writers and actors. And if someone is flipping out over a choice, also give them some space to work through their feelings instead of coming at them and making things worse.

29.03.2025 13:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But IDK man, people over there just need to not go to hyperbole and also allow each other some space and grace. The whole community feels like it's imploding because everyone's coming at each other with like knives unsheathed.

29.03.2025 13:37 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

And like this is not discount the importance of criticism. I am not a fan of how Rand's plotline ended up playing out in S2! I think Mat's been underutilized and don't love that Nynaeve hasn't used the One Power in a substantial way since like.... S1E4.

29.03.2025 13:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, WoT Twitter has just been so prone to hyperbole and it's exhausting. It can't be that the writing team made hard choices and has to balance an ensemble cast. Nope! The only explanation is they hate Rand or Nynaeve or whoever's been deeply wronged by X scene not being adapted.

It's really fun, isn't it?! I know moving little moments like these around rubs some people the wrong way, but I liked it, too. It feels very true to who Show!Moiraine is!

The way it transitions between past and present (and between futures) had such a "flicker, flicker, flicker" feeling to it! I just adored everything about this episode. This is the best episode of a fantasy TV show in the past decade, maybe longer!

#WoTShowSpoilers That episode was simply stunning. What an incredible adaptation of some of the very best chapters of #TheWheelOfTime!! Josha did a phenomenal job portraying so many different characters and it just HIT me right in the soul.

Rafe Judkins and #TheWheelOfTime team are bloody geniuses for figuring out how to bring one of RJs best chapters to life! I'm still completely stunned and lost in my feels 😭πŸ₯²πŸ₯ΉπŸ˜ 11/10!

It's so wild. Maybe they don't like him because he wasn't as naive and innocent as book Rand? But even that an upgrade.

The show fans would honestly riot if they knew like a 1/4 of the things book Rand says to Moiraine. That boy was so much colder and gave so fewer fucks by this point in the books!
