... crime & homelessness have returned, the DC police are inadequate to the task - REGARDLESS of the truth - & use that as an excuse to militarize DC on a permanent basis. This is just setting the groundwork...

By 1 report, the 'occupation' is scheduled to sunset in 30 days.

But...

Trump commonly specifies future due dates that never happen...

Since they concoct their own statistics from thin air, easy to predict if they do hand control back over to DC next month, they'll subsequently claim... /1

-the release of the Epstein files becomes imminent

Whatever comes first.

It's his most authoritarian/totalitarian move to date, & the next logical step of a dream - President-for-life - he has openly proposed many times.

This isn't paranoia. This is the plan. /2

LISTEN UP!

Whatever Trump's excuse for effectively seizing personal control of policing in our nation's seat of government, it puts him in position to physically seize total control of government & arrest Congress &/or SCOTUS should

-Dems retake Congress in '26

-it's time to leave in' 29 /1

The goal is to make anything -- ANYTHING -- that P2025 views as problematic obscene. Lou Reed's "Take a Walk on the Wild Side"? Obscene. You can be arrested and charged for just listening to it.

This is foundational censorship, dressed in the same bullshit Christian Values/Protect the Children bs.

Ever notice how the same people who insist work bestows so much fucking dignity also insist on keeping minimum wages so fucking low?

Less a government interested in "governing" as a government interesting in servicing the needs of its citizens to the best of its ability. (Which is probably saying the same thing, but mine's slightly less open to interpretation; too many seem to think "governing" means telling people what to do...)

... to make it affordable. In this instance, we're not talking about them somehow continuing dial-up service but about bringing those regions up to modern technology, with satellite or broadband tech, & the physical technology to access it.

But this is America...

But, like I said, if we're talking about a VITAL service that some citizens for specific reasons are unable to access, & that puts them regionally at a significant disadvantage, this is where federal or state governments should step in to even the odds, & provide or underwrite the service...

09.08.2025 22:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If people are cutting out the service WITHOUT some superior technology taking its place, like just b/c they can no longer fit what they used to be able to pay into their budget (as opposed to the service raising prices beyond affordability), THAT'S a "recession indicator"...

09.08.2025 22:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes & no.

Not sure it's a recession indicator that old technologies are being replaced by new ones. As you mention, at a certain point, short of monopolistic repression of the new to manipulate profits, too few people will be willing to pay for an item or a service to justify continuation.

Obviously not enough of them are using AOL for the company (which most people likely don't ever realize still exists) to maintain dial-up service... but dial-up probably can't handle 99+% of the modern web anyway.

This is where the feds should step in to provide service if it's needed...

New poem "We Are All Paintings." (This is what waking up at 5AM gets you...)

We are all paintings:
Self-portraits, in progress, of
subjects the painter has never seen
& knows solely by rumor & hearsay.

So what? What's the FBI going to do if it locates them? The Texas Dems aren't committing a federal crime. Illinois is unlikely to extradite them. Aside from Trump desperately wanting to fix the Texas midterms, the Feds have no pony in this race...

This is a longtime wet dream of the investor class, being able to get their hands on other people's retirement funds to gamble with on reckless investments (the ones that pay the best if they're lucky enough to be among the few successful ones). Social security funds are also a longtime goal...
