Truly the greatest struggle. I keep on trying to be self-indulgent but it's difficult when you need to continually fight off those themes and implications with a flyswatter (I don't usually suceed)

It's a funny experience having "deranged" fetishes. Looking for good smut fiction for them is a minefield of "I suddenly think this is a core belief of the author and not just a kink thing" and noping out.

to me; much of the first draft of Make Yourself Useful was done under the pretense that, eventually, I would edit it and make it into a "real" book.
Since I did not have a possession fetish, per se, I could write those scenes under the pretense of them being regular horror scenes, common

It wasn't really a direct media inspiration (I *want* to mention Possession, since it would be such an obvious comparison, but I wrote the library scene a month before watching it) so much that it was a means of writing a mind control scene at a point in time when that was still deeply mortifying
