I use abus bordo & u lock if at higher risk. Bordo/folding isn’t most secure but it’s flexible. I also can’t speak highly enough of getting the locks keyed alike. We splurged on this and it’s been great knowing that we both have the key to more or less all of the locks. Also, insurance.

With a track record like this, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that VIP plate 632 in @mayorbowser.bsky.social’s DC didn’t stop when I was in the (4-way stop) crosswalk with my kid this morning.

The District Dept. of Transportation plans to eliminate Arizona Ave. NW protected bike lanes. Use this action to tell DDOT you object: waba.org/action-page/... . The city should not compromise safety because a few individuals don’t like the look of flex posts.

DDOT is putting a new one to allow southbound left turns across the MBT from 1st St NE to K “for the safety of bicyclists”.

Signal is already up but please push DDOT / Council to evaluate safety.

In a new attack on injured victims, the Mayor’s proposed FY2026 budget (see page 5 [actually page 8 - js.], Title 1, Subtitle A) includes sweeping reform that would severely restrict the rights of victims when they are harmed by a DC Government actor. If a person is harmed by the actions of a DC Government actor, their claim is limited to $500,000 per incident, regardless of the number of victims. In cases of intentional misconduct, the cap would rise to only $1 million total. Plus, the victim will have to prove over $10,000 in medical expenses in order to make a claim for non-economic damages (those damages that are related to pain, suffering, disfigurement, etc - basically everything beyond actual medical bills & lost wages). Further, in all claims involving an emergency vehicle, contributory negligence by the injured person will be applied as a matter of law (in particular circumstances)!

Better—or at least more arguably relevant—than some of the slop shoveled into this year's DC budget bill, but once again, if the Mayor really believes in this, why doesn't she propose a bill and let Council discuss it separately…?
