For a long time now I've made the intentional choice to live my life loudly because there are some who can't. I'm a pansexual sex worker, my blood tells the story of inhumane trade, attempted genocide (and blessed resilience - "yet we remain"), and the imperialism that brought it.

Community is a powerful medicine, especially for those who fall outside the rigid, biased, and narrow boxes of the normative.

Witnessing that we're not alone, sharing time with living, breathing examples of how we can thrive. Lifting each other up, companionship. Representation. Solidarity. Hope.

Exactly. It still ends up evoking the same harmful message, ultimately. If I were to replace sexuality with, say, a racially based cartoon, that probably would get recognized and mentally red flagged by most ppl immediately. So it's very telling when ppl don't recognize the link there.

One of my survival mechanisms is to "know your enemy, audience, fears." For me, the more I know how they work, the more I can recognize, fight, sway, or strategize. Intel!

Agreed. Is there a difference if the artists themselves were queer? Does the context change there, do you think? Does the message change character then? If cis-het ppl do it, definitely a problem. What about our own?

I am LGBTQIA+. My "we" referred to the queer community and others who register homosexuality as normal. I work in decolonizing and deconstructing structural models in relationships. My job *requires* me to think about ppls' perspectives in order to reframe thoughts.

I understand the confusion. I hope you understand my intention at least and the context behind the words used. I was not disagreeing. Both things can be true at once. Liberals don't see it as an issue, though they should pause and challenge why.

It is just as foolish to assume that every one one is acting purposefully out of malice and ignorance. Especially when it comes to deconstructing, conditioned discrimination and prejudice. In order to teach them, we need to understand why they think it's acceptable and then speak to that.

That is why I am fascinated and constantly considering why people may choose to do the things they do. Overtly and subtly. What do they think is their motivation and what is some lingering conditioning. OP was likely questioning that subtle conditioning. So I referred to the superficial motivation.

Also, I happen to be a queer gender non-conforming, relationship diverse, woman of color who understands intersectionality. I also encourage critical, self-examination and deconstruction.

Since apparently I have to clarify, I agreed with the original post but just offered an alternative in order to understand the minds of others. This does not mean I co-sign this practice, but I understand why they think it's effective.

Found families, neighbors, start going in together on wholesale groceries (Costco!) and non-perishable common needs. Go take self defense classes or teach free lessons. Find pro bono lawyers to help figure out legal logistics.

It's torture. It's traumatic. We can't switch off though. We know what happens next, so time to plan our next immediate actions. Even hiding til it blows over requires planning rn. Let's figure it out.
