A β˜…β˜…Β½ review of Vamp (1986) I loved Sinners so much last year that I went again and took my wife. It’s a masterpiece that could have spin offs about the twin brothers during the war, their time in Chicago playing the Chinese and...

I spend most of my review of Vamp talking about Sinners.

A decent movie about a brand, one of the greatest classic horror films America ever produced, a Cosmic Horror with old school effects and a French New Wave that I was accused of having a superficial take on.

The reason a robot was wheezing was not central to the plot. Ebert mentioned it in his review and fans sent in letters to explain it. Instead of learning a new thing and moving on, he wrote an article about how he’s mad that this inconsequential fact wasn’t explained in full during the runtime.

But how is knowing obscure trivia for a fictional world β€œmasturbatory”? I feel like that’s unnecessary denigrating of fans of an IP you don’t respect.

It’s a given that all film watching requires the viewer to bring something to the table; at the very least the understanding of the vocabulary of visual storytelling. You make a good point about knowledge of real world geographic-specific history is definitely more practical…

Just watched a movie I borrowed from the library on the Hoopla app and I discovered that I missed when a movie is over that the credits just play out without a streaming service trying to goad me into watching a different thing. I hate that.
