Nat was an extraordinary campaigner who died of terminal cancer last week.
His friend Sophie Blake promised to carry on his fight for dignity in death - and today launched a petition to stop the assisted dying Bill being blocked or delayed.

“I can’t imagine a committee hearing for any other bill not having representatives from… the people this bill will actually impact.”
Sophie, a mum with incurable cancer, is disappointed the Lords Committee on assisted dying didn’t hear from terminally ill people. Peers must hear from people like her

“Don’t try and sabotage democracy.”
Dame Esther Rantzen notes that a flood of 1000+ amendments goes beyond scrutiny. It risks subverting the elected chamber and weakening trust in parliamentary process. The Commons has twice endorsed this Bill - Peers should respect that democratic decision.

“If they continue to push against the expressed will of the democratic majority, the Lords may find that it is their own future which becomes the question.”
Christine Jardine MP joins many arguing that time-wasting tactics risk tarnishing the House's reputation.

During PMQs, Keir Starmer indicated that it would be wrong for the Lords to use delaying tactics to block the assisted dying Bill.
The public overwhelmingly supports choice at the end of life - a small number of longstanding opponents must not block this Bill.

“I’m doing everything I can to stay alive.”
Sophie is fighting for access to life-extending drugs, and for the right to choose how her story ends.
She wants to be here for her daughter, to fight for more time, and to ensure her death, when it comes, is dignified and without suffering.

@kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social says it plainly: when the law concerns dying people, we must hear from them and their families. They know best why change is needed - no loved one should face grief and the fear of prosecution, and no dying person should be forced to suffer against their wishes.

Fundamentals remain as #AssistedDying clocks up 100 hours Parliamentary consideration:
- MPs know status quo is cruel & untenable
- All passed amendments further tighten Bill (eg advertising ban)
On analysis of votes today, I’m v confident it will pass at 3rd reading next Fri

Liz Saville Roberts MP ‘strongly’ backs assisted dying. We asked her why
Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts has explained why she supports a bill to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales.
"Fundamentally, the question here is: is it right for me to tell the person next to me that because of my moral scruples, they have to suffer, possibly, a really hideous death? Or, is it their right to decide without me interfering?" www.northwaleschronicle.co.uk/news/2522307...

There have been questions about the time and scrutiny allocated to the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. Here the Leader of the HoC makes clear the Bill is receiving more time and scrutiny than even substantial Government Bills.
