Looks like DWM have *finally* stopped referring to The Daleks as "The Mutants (aka The Daleks, 1963-4)". Decades of tradition and stubbornness bordering on the anal, now over.
I think we need a minute's silence.
I haven't pre-ordered Season 21, the first Collection set I won't be buying on release, because I want to wait for reviews. Sadly I suspect much, if not all of the restoration for that set was already complete by the time Season 13 arrived.
Fingers crossed for future sets.
I can understand the need not to ruffle any feathers. I was once asked to tone down what I thought was pretty even-handed criticism of a Blu-ray special feature - not for a BBC Studios release I might add - in a review I gave. My last, as it turned out!
05.03.2026 08:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This was confirmed by Paul Vanezis on socials last week. Thankfully far more authentic (and cheaper!) than trying to recreate the VFX from scratch, I know which I prefer! And from the few clips we've had it should look fine. The effort to which they've gone is highly commendable.
05.03.2026 08:33 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To their credit they've printed the letter, albeit with the undermining caption.

DWM respond to a reader's criticism of the Season 13 Blu-ray restoration by calling the use of AI "magic", accompanied by a totally unrepresentative comparison which fails to address or expand on the most egregious issues.
How thoroughly depressing.
Don't know about you lot but I'm beginning to doubt the legitimacy of the FIFA Peace Prize.

RIP Rob Grant. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that, along with Doctor Who, Red Dwarf quite simply defined my teenage years and I was utterly obsessed with it. The six series he co-wrote with Doug Naylor remain pure gold. I hope he knew how much the show meant to us.
See you, Smeghead.

For those who haven't noticed, tonight at 9pm BBC Four will repeat a 1977 edition of Call My Bluff featuring Tom Baker...
... and it's NOT the episode that appeared on the Season 14 Collection Blu-ray. Get your video recorders out, folks.

You know what BBC Studios should do? Track down the original 35mm film elements of the Paul McGann TV Movie, sort out the rights situation once and for all and get it out fully restored on disc, preferably 4K UHD Blu-ray, in time for the film's 30th anniversary.
That would be nice, wouldn't it?

Not true: Friends ran on Channel 4/E4 until 2011, 7 years after they screened the final episodes.
Frasier meanwhile is essentially schedule filler now. Presumably when they originally negotiated the rights they included perpetual (or at least very long-term) repeats which must be relatively cheap.

Seriously, even Gaston from Beauty And The Beast would struggle to keep up with them. God help them sharing a big bedroom at night, the stench must be unreal.
