and for the characters, i felt that most of them had clear βoutsideβ motivations (moved by the story) but bit less fleshed out intrinsic motivations. so i hope to see development resulting from the events of this book and some deeper character work
(i liked Rukoβs arc though, holy sh*t)
i was mainly drawn in by how reality and mythology are interwoven in the book and def want more of that. it also takes place in a small area of a fairly large map, and ends with hinting at an expansion, so iβm hopeful for a more vivid and detailed worldbuilding π°

β
read for:
- an action-driven fantasy that raises the stakes constantly and sucks you in
- tournaments and conspiracies
βcaveats:
- the world is interesting but a bit shallow, hopefully the sequels deepen it
- some predictable plot twists

A book and a coffee mug on a wooden table, the book is βthe cinnamon bun book storeβ by Laurie Gilmore. The picture has a warm, autumn-y aesthetic.
i donβt care that itβs still august, the weather is chilly and itβs raining and the leaves are rustling and i have a pumpkin spice cappuccino

dark matter. I didn't enjoy fourth wing nor quicksilver (definitely personal preference but the characters and relationships were too immature/problematic for me). dark matter is a really well-written, unique book that will stay with you for a while.

read if:
- you are tired of the "your productivity = your value" narrative
- you want a light and easy but meaningful palette cleanser
- you need a werewolf-at-law (phone number: 1-800-AWO-0000)

A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher
β
read for:
- T. Kingfisherβs signature creepy vibes
- believable villain and gripping plot twist
- clever and non-conventional main character, though a bit frustratingly obstinate at times

it was the same for me! I also donβt have the danmei craving that often anymore, so it was nice to be pulled back into this genre ^_^

Thousand Autumns 1 by Meng Xi Shi
95% high fantasy/character journey, 5% danmei. seems like an expansive story, excited to read more
β
read if:
- you like your danmei with politics and intrigue
- you like main characters that are each otherβs total opposites

i am a golden clock away from stardew valley perfection, FINALLY
12.04.2025 08:12 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 09 books read in 2025 so far. doesnβt sound like much, but itβs perfectly good. most importantly, itβs realistic for me, and it allows me to enjoy my books as it suits me best individually.
this is your reminder to judge your hobbies on how much joy they bring and not on how productive they are
πͺππ
i think thereβs a huge difference between reading books, and reading books with intention. i would rather appreciate all my books slowly and fully, light and more complex reads alike, than fall into the trap of viewing reading as another productivity goal to fulfill.
