What a load of rubbish.

Bashing people doesn't make anyone safe. People who are trying to march in the opposite direction to the IH event. People who stopped, out of the way of foot traffic, for evening prayers. They weren't a threat to any foreign dignitary.

Also poisonous is the mantra of school "choice". It implies that the choice would *always* be to go private and so devalues public ed. A well-funded, well-supported state school system is never one of the "choices" on offer.

Quick reminder: the proportion of private schools which are fully funded or overfunded by the state is officially 98%. The proportion of public schools of which the same is true is 2%. This was a couple of years ago so it's definitely gotten worse.

Okay, so, where should I start? We've got European colonisation, federation, the White Australia policy, the modern information environment, the role of resource extraction, the UK and US, multinational capitalism, the Whitlam dismissal, the Third Way 90s, the Accords, geography...

Maybe they should extend the date, maybe they should come up with a redress system that doesn't suck, maybe they should have gone to court instead of settling at the very first available opportunity both times to lock in a windfall instead of pursuing justice, if I've missed anything let me know!

Private school supporters will treat change like religious persecution.
Allegra Spender recently asked Albo about Labor's 2022 promise to stop providing private schools with discrimination exemptions. Albo response was we need "respect across the board as well" (as well as respect for queer ppl)..

Public ed is good for social cohesion. Public funding for religious private schools divides us.
It's extremely depressing how our system & pol leaders encourage a belief that sending your kids to private, esp "Christian" schools gives them a better future. We need pride & investment in public ed

The Albanese Government's case for crackdown on FOI fell apart when it became clear that there is no "flood" of FOI requests.

Case load is about the same as 20 years ago. The extra costs and delays are a result of FOI officers spending their time trying to block access and censor documents.
