Just love that Bradley Cooper went from the studiously excellent MAESTRO, to the loose-limbed & casually enchanting IS THIS THING ON?. A filmmaker who can operate in every mold, heโ€™s the real deal. Lovely chemistry between Will Arnett & Laura Dern, a very New York #NYFF closing.

I don't think the locale was properly fleshed out in THE FACLON & THE WINTER SOLDIER, but they got some of the club/bar stuff right...wished the biker gang had a bigger role.

I personally love Madripoor, which I think is supposed to be like Singapore or Mayalisa, this melting pot of cultures...but led by criminal figures like Tiger (supposedly in the game and sort of Logan's love interest) and Viper (Logan's "wife").

Well, I mean, any international port city ends up with some sort of seedy reputation. I think it was partly coming from folks like Frank Miller, who had a thing for Asian cultures but did not really learn much about them himself (part of his streak of cultural appropriation and otherisms).

It was created, if I remember correctly, so the solo Wolverine comics would have another Asian location other than Japan, and they could play around with a place without angering a real country. Super common with Marvel to make up in-comic settings.

It's a fictional pirate haven island that is eventually run by criminal syndicates in modern times. The Hand and Yakuza operate out of there...

Sort of like a comic book version of Hong Kong/Singapore/Panama, but controlled by criminals.

โ€œFascismโ€ isnโ€™t a slur for politics we donโ€™t like. Itโ€™s a precise word with precise meaning. And in the face of whatโ€™s happening right now in America, itโ€™s the most honest one we have.

Iโ€™ll lay it out as plainly as I can. ๐Ÿงต

I get why people recoil from the word. Itโ€™s ugly, it sounds extreme.

But you know whatโ€™s uglier? Pretending this isnโ€™t happening until itโ€™s too late to stop it.

Cancelled my Disney+ sub last night. Specifically mentioning Kimmel/1st Amendment as the reasoning in the "other" section. America is an oligarchy, with the tech-bros and these morally bankrupt corporations ushering in authoritarianism for tax breaks and promises of crushing future labor disputes.

More and more Disney alliesโ€”including former CEO Michael Eisnerโ€”are calling on the company to take a stand on the Jimmy Kimmel crisis.

Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption.

Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow.

People have power. Ask Target

Personally, I was heartbroken the NDP got crushed like that, but they didn't make the best case possible for themselves, which sadly turned it into a two-party race. PP's loss should have signalled his own leadership's end, too. Since these PCC leaders usually LEAVE leadership when they lose.

Carney wasn't elected on a progressive platform; he was elected because he was the best equipped to deal with Trump/tariffs and to open up new relations with other countries. Pierre would piss himself if he had to make business deals with Europe/Asia. It's sort of obvious WHY he won the election.

19.09.2025 16:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

You think Pierre (two-time loser) is going to win a federal election when his own constituents ousted him and had to run to Alberta to keep his position? Could they win with someone else? Maybe. PP is their albatross until they figure out he's a super weak opposition leader (in denial about).

19.09.2025 15:58 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

They don't have a progressive game, though; they're a pro-business party, which they've always been. NDP pushed forward progressive policy ideas that Liberals supported because they needed their votes on other matters...now they don't because the NDP got wiped out.

Pierre had to run to Alberta...

19.09.2025 15:55 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The NDP is the progressive movement in Canada, and they're on the ropes out of fear of PP as PM. If you're looking for progressive ideas, Singh is gone; those aren't coming back anytime soon, and Carney is just the next centrist.

19.09.2025 15:52 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh, Pierre wiped out the federal progressive moment in Canada when the election was pretty much solely about preventing his personal oversight of the negotiations of the Trump Tariffs. He would have bent us over a barrel, and the NDP suffered from a two-party election.

Wrongfully terminated based on illegal interference from Trump/FCC, in an attempt to violate 1st Amendment rights for retribution reasons, not legal ones.

Kimmel might have one of the strongest civil lawsuit cases imaginable on his hands. Iger should be pissing himself.

Party of "freedom" is mirroring authoritarianism of the Soviets/Nazis, with a deranged and moronic cult leader at the head of it. America was warned for a decade that it could get this bad, and instead media stuck with hubris-led denialism in an attempt to cozy up to and court right-wing audiences.

CNN isn't doing the American public a service when host Abby Phillips and guests have to debate a Republican-funded CNN "employee" like Scott Jennings on facts and reality.

You've given up on educating viewers when Jennings is allowed to lie, misinform, and push propaganda on such a regular basis.

Spider is a more compelling character than Jake Sully, just how I see it. I don't know what it is about Sam Worthington, but between his weak American accent and wonky performance, it's hard not to get excited when anyone else is on screen in those AVATAR films.
