The NFL has traditionally given a round discount in value to future picks. So a fourth in 2027 is actually a fifth-round value now.
It's the time value of money corollary.

This is something I don't think Ted Thompson would have done.
He cut a number of high-pedigree, name players with proven production seemingly without exploring the trade market first.
Think teams are looking more for those arbitrage opportunities now, generally.
#Packers save almost $11 million by trading Gary.
They'll have to eat over $17 million in dead cap but it'll all come this season.
Frees up the $31 million he would have cost them in 2027 too.
When Rashan Gary's social media person realizes they have to make a whole new graphic so the "I was hacked" narrative seems plausible.

The more I've thought about it, the more I think Brian Gutekunst will be content to sign a mid-level CB, preserve the comp picks, and let the draft play out.
NTs can be found on Day 3 if necessary. And they'll have next year's FA/draft to address higher-end DT if needed.
Over the last few years, the Ravens, Bills and Packers have looked similar in that they’ve been consistently good, but come up short in the playoffs with complete rosters that lacked star power.
All three have spent significant draft capital the last 9 months to change that.

Have to think Franklin was someone Jonathan Gannon and Bobby Babich identified as someone they wanted.
Packers are very good about coaches and front office communicating about this kind of stuff.
Babich used to be a LBs coach too.
Another thing to like about Franklin is he’s got that fuck you edge.
Packers need some more of that.
Zaire Franklin was not great last year, according to PFF he was straight up terrible, but this is exactly the kind of move I was talking about on @lockedonpackers.bsky.social this week: bring in some players so you aren’t FORCED anywhere in the draft.

Quincy Williams is a name I'd be interested in from a Packers standpoint.

Former Packers LBs coach Mike Smith said he thought Rashan Gary was the best DE in his class the year Green Bay drafted him.
(Nick Bosa was in that class).
He was always Gary's biggest fan.
He coaches in New England now. Pats could use some size at Edge. Just saying.

It’s funny everyone thinks it’s so crazy a team would pay Malik Willis $30M off 3 starts.

Charlie Kolar is an under-the-radar guy I’d love for the Packers.
They need a tight end that can block behind Tucker Kraft. He’s a nice complement to Luke Musgrave. Special teams player. Won’t be expensive.
Mentioned this today on @lockedonpackers.bsky.social but a lot of this offseason hinges on what the Packers already think of their DT room.
If they think Wyatt is a long-term piece then a NT is really the big need and unless you can find an elite pass rushing NT (rare) Day 3 draft is fine.
Brian Gutekunst can't afford to wait and hope the draft brings the reinforcements the #Packers need.
