Absolutely a reasonable context, lol.
I find that having a plan for what happens if the players don't do anything is a huge boon. You can always fall back on it for context of their actions.

Playing Elden Ring for the first time. It's a genre of games I really love (souls like) and though I love it now, I almost bounced off it at the beginning.
My choice to forgoe a shield after playing DS 1-3 using them has been a huge change! I love the paired swords, but I really wish I could block!
I've been there! And now, the anxiety of if your players will use it?

I agree! Other people liking it is not the same as you liking it, though. ;( it's clear you did a ton of work on it!
21.09.2025 13:27 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hey! #ttrpg #dnd #miniatures folks.
I'm looking for cool, winter models for, tiefling, dragon born, gnomes and elves. I've found some but have had trouble locating these because naming conventions aren't uniform across the industry. Any assistance would be wonderful! (Even non-winter, honestly)
Yep, Dungeon Masters Guide. I believe it was 4th edition.
And yah, some players just wanna be along for the ride, doing what they can and having fun. Forcing the spotlight on these type of players - or penalizing them for being who they are - is one of the reasons I don't like RP rewards in game.
A hand painted 28mm dwarf in green, silver, and white. From the front.
Oh man, yeah.
I painted this old boi the other day. I don't know how much his original owner paid, but I'll assume it's under $2.
In a very open way, I think an absolute example of that is Matt Colville. His advice is impeccable, his videos are fun. But he didn't like streaming, his players didn't like streaming, and it's not something he's comfortable doing. His edited gameplay is good!
But they are all different skills.
I hear you!
In one DMG's it mentions that there are a bunch of different players types, and some people are spectators - who like to watch and be part of the story unfolding, but not the focus. And some people are social - they just wanna hang out.
It helped me contextualize a lot!
I really love the variety of printable DND minis these days. I remember the dark times, when it was only ral partha and reaper!

09.09.2025 22:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Absolutely! Game Master description, vibe, style and tone are incalculably important in getting that weight.
09.09.2025 14:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I like to run my DND games as mortal forward, but those games are definitely more souls-like with their vibes without needing the exact mechanics.
09.09.2025 14:42 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0As an avid player of both game types, I unequivocally agree. The feel of danger, challenge and heroics are what a lot of people in ttrpgs are seeking.
The hardest part in making that work is danger often is attached to the possibility of mortality, and players are deeply connected to ttrpg chars.

I haven't made any rules for this guy, but finished him up at the start of August. What a cool model from @galeforcenine.bsky.social
