@ICUData4EU GA ended with an interesting demonstration of the confederated data sharing platform, which will be powered by an AI search engine based on SNOMED CT. #EFN will continue to follow these developments closely ensuring they align with the #nurses perspective.

#EFN is following the second @ICUData4EU General Assembly taking place in Cluj, Romania, which was opened with interesting presentations from Work Packages 1,2,3, and a meaningful discussion on the primary use cases of the data sharing platform.

The 121st EFN GA is now over. The EFN wants to thank all the EFN Members for the important discussions held over the past 2 days, which provide a clear path forward for EFN’s lobby work in the upcoming months, and is happy to welcome the new EFN EXCOM and two new EFN Members.

EFN Members were briefed on the EFN’s ongoing work within the EU-funded projects @BeWell, #NursingAction, @KEEPCARING, and @ICUData4EU, working towards delivering concrete improvements at frontline on upskilling, recruitment & retention, mental health, and data interoperability.

The EFN Members received insightful briefings on the most recent developments in ICN, EFNNMA, and ENSA, who were thanked by the EFN President for their continued partnership.

Day 2 of EFN October 2025 GA officially started with the presentations of the leads of the EFN Professional, Workforce and Public Policy Committees, who briefed the General Assembly on the conclusions and outcomes of the discussions held yesterday in each Committee.

Day 1 of EFN GA is officially over, following meaningful discussions in EFN Professional, Workforce and Public Policy Committees, where EFN Members discussed & approved new EFN Policy Statements that give the EFN Brussels office a strong political mandate to continue lobbying the EU Institutions.

The #EFN members were briefed on key political topics the EFN has been focusing on at EU level, including Safe Staffing Levels, APN, European Semester, and EU enlargement.

Meeting for the EFN GA, EFN members were welcomed in Dublin by INMO President, Caroline Gourley, who emphasised INMO solidarity with European colleagues, as they share key concerns & challenges such as safe staffing levels, workforce shortages, & growing complexities of care.

Speaking at the online launch of the new #WHO Europe Report on the #MentalHealth of Doctors and #Nurses the #EFN highlighted the concrete work being conducted in the @KEEPCARING project, calling on policymakers to upscale it throughout the EU!

#KEEPCARING 2nd General Assembly is now over. Across Europe, the nurses' mental health is deteriorating quickly. The project will make a difference through concrete interventions that will be inspiring EU Policies that are fit for purpose.

The #EFN SecGen, in his keynote address in the Italian Senate, firmly expressed the need to develop EU framework legislation on #SSL for #nurses, with stipulated nurse-to-patient ratios, to be developed and implemented at the national level, as a matter of #OSH!

The #EFN SecGen presented to the high-level audience in the Italian Senate today the #ICUdata4EU project, which is aiming at addressing the challenges that #ICUs are facing. EFN is ensuring that end-users requirements are integrated in the platform’s development. #CNAI #Nurses

In his keynote address, the #EFN SecGen presented #BeWell, where EFN is a key partner. BeWell focuses on #upskilling and #reskilling the #nursing workforce in the digital and green skills, for which EFN had developed two MOOCs for nurses and allied healthcare professionals! #CNAI

Today, the #EFN Secretary General has held a keynote address in the Italian Senate at the event organised by #CNAI. He presented the EU project #KEEPCARING, of which EFN is a key partner, which is co-creating a multi-faceted solution package to prevent #burnout among #nurses.

The EFN Symposium concluded that in this process of digitalisation it is key not to forget other areas of healthcare systems - Retention and recruitment of health professionals, safe staffing levels, and good working conditions need to be a priority too to provide the best patient care.

The EFN Symposium organised today in Helsinki, showed that the digitalisation of the EU healthcare systems brings significant benefits in care delivery, but to make digital healthcare work, strong policies and the key role of frontline nurses in the design of digital tools are crucial.

On 12 June, EFN will highlight key EU projects focused on helping nurses build digital and AI-related skills. These projects aim to make sure frontline nurses are ready to use new technologies during their daily practice, safely and effectively.

To make digital healthcare work, strong policies are essential. During its symposium on 12 June, EFN will explore how EU legislation supports the frontline deployment of safe and fit-for-purpose digital tools, as well as the upskilling and reskilling of the nursing workforce.

At EFN symposium on 12 June, you will hear best practices by the EFN Members from Norway, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Ireland. These nurse-led initiatives show how digital tools and AI are already being frontline deployed to improve clinical workflows and supporting better care delivery.

On 12 June 2025, the EFN will host a symposium within the ICN Congress in Helsinki, focusing on digitalisation of EU healthcare systems and the role nurses play in this. It will show how frontline nurses are helping to design digital tools and AI that meet the needs in daily clinical practice.

As #IND2025 comes to an end, the #EFN is calling once again on the EU to take concrete action on #nursing shortages. We need Political Commitment, Concrete EU Actions, and we need it NOW! It’s time for the EU to come forward with real solutions !!
