It violates not only the U.S. Constitution, but also the Alaska State Constitution and their own bylaws. Yet, they can say “we support academic freedom, but don’t ever use these three words.”

Banning words is anti-intellectual and a trait of fascism.

Thank you for posting this thread. I’m in the middle of a push to raise $ at UAF to replace federal funding that was cut from the program I work for because we’re focused on diversity and inclusion. Pointing out the $ aspect is a good idea (unfortunate that $ is what they care about)

National Science Foundation Fires 168 Workers as Federal Purge Continues Firings at the NSF included permanent employees who had already completed their one-year probationary period, as well as at-will workers.

I'm devastated for all the folks who work at NSF and fearful of what this (and all the other shit that's happening) means for the future of NSF-funded research. www.wired.com/story/nation...

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.

This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds.

This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.
