Trade agreements can be tools for collective economic growth and shared prosperity. But they must also serve to expand human and labor rights, improve working conditions and to elevate labor standards for all.

The AEWR determines the minimum wage employers must pay H-2A farmworkers and other farmworkers employed alongside them.

W/ the new methodology, the Trump admin puts employer profits over farmworkers' livelihoods, by allowing employers to drive down wages for all farmworkers.

CDM strongly opposes the Trump Administration's new wage calculations that would reduce farmworkers' wages by $5,500 per year. Farmworkers are already some of the lowest paid workers in the US, and these new wage determinations would make it harder for them to make ends meet.

How to Solve the US Farmworker Shortage, According to Congress As the Trump administration prioritizes immigration enforcement, representatives from farming districts say they need a creative solution to their labor problems, and fast.

CDM's Deputy Policy Director, Carmen Martinez, shares in the article: These proposals "'are geared toward making it easier and less costly for employers,' but not better or safer for workers."

But these "solutions" only take into account employers’ needs. They fail to recognize the urgent need for strengthened worker protections to reduce the risk of abuse, exploitation, wage theft, forced labor, and trafficking—harms disproportionately faced by migrant guestworkers across industries.

Lawmakers are scrambling to provide “solutions” to a growing labor shortage caused by the Trump administration’s worker deportations and efforts to de-document people already in the U.S., stripping them of their immigration status and work authorization.

Trump Drops the Hammer on Farmworkers At the end of the season, he cuts wages of 400,000 workers by a third.

Farmworkers are some of the most essential yet lowest paid workers in the US. And now, the Trump admin is slashing their hard-earned wages even more.

This shortsighted and exploitative measure will negatively impact thousands of farmworkers & their families.
