Particularly for a trans woman who transitioned years ago, it might not occur to her to mention it on dates

But now, she not only has to make sure she remembers to mention it going forward, she has to think about every

Which is something cis people seem to struggle to grasp because for them the idea of transness is so exotic and alien

But all of this kind of ethical discussion somewhat misses the wood for the trees because this guidance isn't a result of an ethical argument, it's a targeted political attack on trans people

And so when that statement- something we never asserted- is found to be false this is treated as deception

Because the popular vision of trans people, particularly trans women, is that there is something inherently deceptive about us

The way we dress, the way we make our bodies look, the way we act, is taken as a speech act to the effect of 'I have and was born with x genitalia'

But this guidance suggests that in the case of trans people the question doesn't need to be asked- that the onus is on the trans person to assume that the other person needs to know this information and to offer it

(and sidenote it would also not be unreasonable to ask him *why* he has such a blanket policy against Irish women and to suggest that it might be because of prejudice)

But if someone, say, says he would never sleep with an Irish woman, and one day he takes a girl home and the next day finds her Irish driving licence on the counter, he wasn't assaulted! He made an assumption that was incorrect

It's not the responsibility of potential partners to disclose anything that could be a deal breaker because that could be any number of things

Of course, if you're explicitly asked about something and then lie that is deception

The ethics seems pretty clear cut to me- people can have whatever 'deal breakers' they want, but it's their responsibility to make those known to potential partners and establish if a given person meets their desires or not
