Oh, thank you! I don't know what I'll be doing this week, but since I'll be upping the work writing pace from now, I'll probably just be staying on Nahla and chilling.

Things have a way of presenting themselves over time! Weird to think that soon I'll have been in the same system for a month.

Home sweet home! Three weeks so far without leaving the same system.

We're back at Pâte Sablée crater, our base on Nahla in Hypi Bra EV-P d5-78.

It's a comfortable 259 K out there tonight, so that's only -14C! Cosy! ❄️🍺

Those names are not randomly chosen either... a Norse name for the ELW, which is fitting since you discovered it! If I have time I will make a report breaking down why each name was chosen.

e.g. "Bellatrix" after "Trixie", the codename for Debian 13, which is due to reach stable later today 🐧

That barycentre thing is really helpful and explains a lot. I have seen many moons and planets rotate around a single empty point and I had no idea why.

I think I've got it! So the seed is always the same because it's tied to the name and/or coordinates of the system, but it's the game's engine that will always interpret that seed the same way for everyone?

OK, I looked into this and you are correct! Rebekah and Mocha [and their moons] rotate around a shared barycentre. Crazy. And the ELW [8] is a moon that orbits Mocha 🧘‍♀️

I'm trying to get my head around this: I can understand how it recalculates the orbital mechs even years after on the fly, but I don't get how it stores geological features. Each mountain and rock is consistent for all players. It's to do with seeds, apparently. Even that gas vent in the background!

Those line things always confused me! But yes, they show that something interesting is going on here. Some really cool mechanics.

And wait till you see this gas giant which orbits Rebeka, now called Mocha. More to come. You found a gorgeous system here.

Rebekah/Nahla are ORBITED by another gas giant with its own moons, and one of those is your ELW. I didn't realise. That's what your ELW is doing!

Ah, thank you! I actually got a "quality writing" achievement from Inara for the logbook entry titled "I hate The Void" which I wasn't expecting! 😍😇 I think they look for originality of writing or something, and the others are technically rich, though not as introspective, maybe.

Yes! A bit nerdy I know. It has lava spouts, gas vents and fumeroles. Plenty to see and do some outdoor cooking on. [I was told never to cook on rock so... soup pan will have to be lava-heated only for safety]

Pâte Sablée is absolutely huge, with a diameter of 248km and a rough surface area of 48,317km², it's about the size of Slovakia [coincidentally]!

No smoked meat and cabbage soup here though, but it bloody needs it, -23C by day, -123C by night, it's colder than the night side, being a crater 🌔

It's going to be mostly exploring this one moon, or more accurately, this crater, Pâte Sablée! We're looking at climate, geology, topography, orbital mechs, neighbouring bodies and visual aesthetics.

This moon is very mountainous and landing is tricky, so the flat crater is perfect as a base 1/2

Interesting, I hadn't though of that... well, I can build a massive report of this place soon and send it their way. I have another seven weeks here scheduled! [I'll be careful with my landings, Miley's doing just fine!] 🚀

🥹 I've wanted to do just that for a long time, and when I found this golden biscuit moon with the red gas giant, I thought, why not this system? Also, it's proven that only you and I have ever been here!
