On 25 November 2025, in Brussels, Blue Shield Belgium will host a full day of reflection: “Trafficking and Conflict: Challenges for Cultural Heritage Today.”

The ninth edition of Operation Pandora, an international operation targeting the trafficking of cultural goods, has led to 80 arrests and the seizure of 37,727 items including archaeological pieces, artworks, coins and musical instruments.

ENIGMA has been presented at Digital Heritage 2025 conference, the world’s leading event on cultural heritage and emerging technologies, held this week in Siena, Italy.

The coming months will be very intense in terms of disseminating the project results.

- 4th Pilot : Validation of the ENIGMA Decision-Support and Data-Communication Platform.

The main objective of this pilot study is to provide an overall assessment of the developed system as well as a validation of the efficiency and efficacy of the proposed integrated workflow.

It is very important to monitor endangered areas, to detect land changes and alert authorities. Smuggling and illicit trade of CGs, in many cases, originates in conflicting areas, by looting or deliberate demolition of heritage sites by illegal excavators, or simple neglection of them.

- 3rd Pilot: Monitoring of Endangered Heritage Sites

The main objective of this pilot study is to validate the developed Earth observation toolkit and the innovative AI techniques as well as the efficiency and efficacy of the proposed workflow.

A major barrier in identification of CGs is that the available technologies presuppose that the CG is known, documented and registered.

The main objective of Pilot Case 2 is to validate the efficiency and efficacy of the proposed workflow by using scenario building and real museum items.

2nd Pilot: "Identification and Tracing of Unregistered CGs"

- 1st Pilot "Novel Documentation of Museum Items"

The main objective of this pilot study is to investigate methods to enhance Authenticity and Traceability of museum items, by introducing and validating novel ways to documentation. ENIGMA creates the concept of Unique Authenticity Identifier (UAI)
