This card is just for kix… literally. Here is a video of Jared letterpress printing greeting cards in a mix of green and opaque white rubber base ink. This press run involved printing 40 cards using a 3x5 Kelsey Excelsior tabletop printing press.

The print from the electrotype of a basketball was made prior to the late 1930s when basketballs stopped having laces. The text “Go Sacramento Kings” and “Light the beam!” was typeset in 30 point Caslon font. One hundred prints were made on this press run.

This video is for all the fans of the Beam Team! Jared even got out some old purple ink to letterpress print something for the Sacramento Kings using a 4x6 Golding Official No. 2 tabletop press.

In this video, Jared letterpress printed a Ramadan greeting with black rubber base ink using a 3x5 Kelsey Excelsior tabletop printing press. The text reads, “Ramadan Mubarak,” and was typeset with 60 point Cheltenham Bold font.

The picture in halftones are broken into a series of equally spaced dots of varying size. Halftones were used to introduce photographs into newspapers starting in the 1880s. Firmer packing is needed in printing halftones as well.

February 17th this year is Presidents’ Day! For today, Jared letterpress printed an image from a halftone of the first 25 presidents from George Washington to Teddy Roosevelt. This cut was made about 115 years ago and it is from the Bill Skarles Collection.

On Feb. 15, 1820, Susan B. Anthony was born. She was an American social activist, abolitionist, and women's rights activist who was one of the most visible leaders for the suffrage movement. For Susan’s birthday, Zoey letterpress printed 1 of her favorite quotes by the suffrage leader.

The electrotype (copy of a woodcut) depicts Cupid and it was made 125-135 years ago by Lewis Winter at his engraving business in Sacramento at 627 J Street. #valentine

February 8th is National Kite Flying Day! For today, Howard letterpress printed an electrotype from the Bill Gaylord Collection of a man flying a kite. This cut was made 80-90 years ago. This was printed with red oil base ink using our Washington hand press.

On January 24, 1848, James Marshall found gold at Sutter’s Mill. This would lead to the CA Gold Rush and Sacramento grew as the closest major city to the gold fields.

For today, Jared letterpress printed a halftone copy of a lithograph that illustrated Sacramento at the time of the Gold Rush.

January 23rd is National Handwriting Day!

For today, Howard decided to take a different direction for National Handwriting Day. Howard typeset and letterpress printed “Why handwrite something when I can print it?” in 30 point Kaufmann Bold font.

For today, Jared letterpress printed the closest image we can make to a tin can in our print shop at the Sacramento History Museum. This woodcut, made 125-135 years ago, is from the Lewis Winter Collection.

Even while letterpress printing with our jobbing press, Howard has jokes. On January 18, 1779, Peter Mark Roget was born. He is the author of the “Thesaurus,” which was published in 1852.

Ever since, the thesaurus has helped people find synonyms while writing. It even helped us with this joke.

January 15th is National Hat Day! For today, Jared letterpress printed an image from a very thin lead electrotype from the Lewis Winter Collection.

This cut depicts a man (almost Napoleonic in appearance) wearing a giant bicorn felt hat.
