Maybe not, but that doesn't mean that isn't the ultimate goal. It's a small business he acquired relatively recently, so it's not uncommon for take home earnings to be limited.

I don't know enough about the economics of oyster farming to say one way or the other. I believe he has other sources of income, but that alone doesn't make it a hobby farm.

Whether this is impacted by his senate run is beside the point.

The claim was that the didn’t take *any* income from the oyster farm. I haven’t seen anything to support that. I also haven’t any support for your claim he’s “not living off of it.” All I see is speculation and supposition.

I’m pretty sure he does take income from the business in one form or another.

That's a fair read. I think there's probably also a read that makes at least some room for the role of Jeffries' agency.

That is inaccurate. He worked for an oyster farm (that was not owned by his parents), acquired it, and that farm apparently sells oysters to his mom's nearby restaurant (among others).

I would also say that virtually all farmers farm out of choice. This isn't the USSR.

That isn't necessarily true of hobby farmers, and you still haven't justified why that term even applies.

That's a fair comment, although those numbers still throw cold water on the idea that Mamdani has cracked the code for Democratic electoral success. The most optimistic read is that a candidate like Mamdani isn't necessarily DOA.

He criticized Mamdani's defense of "globalize the intifada," and Mamdani then clarified his position on the term. That was the extent of that whole drama.

People will draw conclusions from just about anything, but that doesn't mean those conclusions are worth taking seriously.

You need to be in the majority to censure people. Emphasizing public safety is one of the most bland and anodyne things you can say during a mayoral race.

He can't avoid getting asked about it because he talks to the press all the time as speaker, but he's entitled to endorse at a time of his choosing just like everyone else.

He was cagey because he didn't want to announce his endorsement then. It's very straightforward and not sinister at all.

Endorsements are timed deliberately, so obviously he's not just going to blurt it out when he get's asked...
