When viruses force the cell to make viral proteins, they also downregulate its production of native proteins using a special viral translation initiation factor (vIF4F), which has specificity to viral transcripts!

This interesting study concerns aging in WORMS πͺ±.
Why is it that only PLANT π± researchers put their organismsβ names in paper titles?
Gedankenexperiment: Who would NOT feel deceived if a plant aging paper did not mention plants in the title?

I left Twitter when Musk started with the Nazi salutes.
Twitter has steadily progressed to generating and distributing explicit images of children.
Yet still, some friends and colleagues remain on the platform, seemingly unbothered (at least, not sufficiently).
I wonder, what will it take?
I have long been skeptical of biostimulants as a broadly-usable product in Ag π± π
Unfortunately, that seems to have been warranted π¬
The authors made a great effort, lots of work went into this!

I need a mood booster, let's talk about capybaras.
Here's a capy demonstrating one of MANY ways they can move through the water: running along the bottom.
They're 'semi-aquatic' mammals, just like hippos, seals & beavers. They LOVE water.

- The hard work was done by the awesome biowasm team!
- Does tree building too
- V fast compared to e.g., muscle on EBI
- Not tested that much!
Pint jar filled with blue dry beans.
A few years ago, through luck and vibes, I managed to produce this blue colored bean variety.
This was an early step in trying to answer the question, [paraphrased] "Why isn't blue as common as red in beans, even though they're both anthocyanins and the plant has the genes for both?"
Important theoretical framework for NLR evolution.

Great paper! It's always interesting to see how the public engages with such complex topics.
Will try to remember this analysis next time I talk to someone worried about NGTs π
The recent attacks on Ukraine have got me worrying, like many Europeans.
I find anxiety flourishes in the absence of action.

Great work! Always nice to see new GE tools published.
After the extensive optimization of TnpB & its guide, did you benchamrk its efficiency against popular GE tools (SpCas9, LbCas12a, etc.)?
We wrote a review on the mα΄dular properties of plant cell-surface receptors, and how this knowledge can be used to reprogram and engineer them:

Very cool!
GE made a grass easier to convert into biofuels.
Making plants more suitable to second-generation biofuel production is one of the coolest uses of GE.
A big open question is how well such plants resist bio- & necrotrphs. Plants ultimately evolved lignin for a reason.

So, the poly-specialist theory predicts generalist pathogens have an expanded number of effector genes whose expression differs markedly depending on what host they are infecting?
Not aware of such findings, although this isn't really my field.
Are those two hypotheses meaningfully different? What are some testable predictions which stem from one but not the other?
(honest question)
