2025 GCSE Results Students and parents were at school early to collect their results from school today, with quite a queue outside reception before the doors were open, there was a feeling of excitement as they waited. We are thrilled to be celebrating the tremendous success of our Year 11 students and their GCSE results. Although there were many nervous students, parents and staff first thing this morning, the nerves for many were replaced by big smiles and the odd tear of joy! Mahjebeen was very excited to find almost a full house of grade 9s with a couple of 8s.

Untitled In this final blog post of the term, Mr Bennett considers the events of this year, the community in which we live and being ready for the changes and new beginnings in September. Reflecting upon the end of an academic year can be quite a strange experience.  There is of course mounting anticipation for the holidays, salutary reflections for colleagues who are moving to pastures new or retiring and the chance to reflect upon those moments of pride in what students and staff have achieved over the year; and there is much to be proud of!

And They’re Off! This week we’ve said goodbye to our Year 13 students who officially leave us to take their A Level exams in the next few weeks.  In a colourful and joyous assembly, there were many memories and lots of goodwill in their final moments with us. In something of a tradition now for Year 13 leavers, the theme of fancy dress meant there were a lot of costumes, cowboy hats and jockey silks during the day and the assembly was amazingly colourful and festive. Headteacher Mr Bennett addressed the students telling them that they have been a delightful year group, all the way from Year 7 and that they have the most excellent sense of humour.

The Great British Spring Clean Groups of students went out last week to take part in the Great British Spring Clean.  Over four days they ventured out all over Balsall Common picking up litter from the pavements and hedges to help improve the local environment. Over four days a group of about 10-15 students from each year set out across the village each day.  In total, fifty students were involved in collecting 13 large bags of rubbish.  They were joined by some staff members and local resident and litter volunteer Rachel. Donning their high-vis safety jackets and a litter-picker tool, the teams set out each morning during tutor time, visiting Kenilworth Road, Station Road, Meeting House Lane and as far as Riddings Hill and the Lavender Hall Park.

Football Crazy! Year 7 Student Aisha has signed up to play football for Aston Villa Football Club. Aisha lives and breathes football and has been playing as far back as she can remember.  She is rather serious about the game and has signed up to AVFC academy.  “I used to just play in the garden with my dad all the time and I joined a football team called Haunchwood Girls that played in the park next to my house,” she said. Through a family connection and an enthusiastic grandad, Aisha managed to get a trial for the under 9s and was offered a place at the Aston Villa Girls’ Academy where she is now an under 12 player.

A Level Geography: Trip to London Geography A Level students have been out and about on a field trip as part of their studies, having a look at various aspects of city environments, changes and the impacts that follow from investment. The Year 13 students took the day trip to London on Friday 31 January, setting of early and heading to London by minibus to Canon Park tube station and then onward to central London. The day trip aimed to show students their case studies in the real world. It is important in geography to see the theory in action within the field and this outing is a way to connect the classroom study with reality.
