Finally taking some time to read the other chapters in this book, edited by @ecohugger.bsky.social. The poem "My dress has wings" by Michelle M. Jacob resonates so hard. Also randomly reminded me that somewhere out there is(are) photo(s) of me growing up in Kotzebue, taken by random tourists.

I’m incredibly honored to co-author with such a brilliant group of scholars, Elders, and land protectors. If you work in conservation, land management, or environmental justice, I hope this gives you tools to reflect, shift power, and imagine better futures.

We provide an indicators and desired conditions framework from which managers and Indigenous Nations can assess where they are at on the spectrum in terms of co-mangement and how to move from one function to another.

From the paradigms that erased Indig Ppl, to models of co-equity and Indigenous-led stewardship, we make the case for centering Indigenous futurities; not as a metaphor, but as grounded, actionable frameworks guided by our Knowledge Systems, rights, and responsibilities.

We trace the colonial power structures embedded in U.S. park and protected area (PPA) management, unpack how they've marginalized Indigenous Nations, and offer a spectrum model to move toward more just and sovereign Indigenous land governance.
