The #Newspoll federal poll was taken between 29 September - 2 October 2025, sample of 1264, online survey. Here is the table graphic as it appears on page 4 of The Australian, 6 October, including voting, leader approval ratings, better Prime Minister, and a question on house prices. #auspol

I doubt heโ€™ll challenge this term, more likely to make media interventions every now and again when the Coalition looks like stabilising

โ€˜The Asset Economyโ€™ really shouldโ€™ve gotten more political traction than it did both here and abroad

Iโ€™m not sure Abundance is explicitly challenging Securenomics but itโ€™s definitely the โ€œinโ€ narrative & in part a response to the limited electoral traction of the Biden Administration

Even better is at the same time, some of the Greens councillors are also staffers + the plan includes five council car parks being used for 100% social housing (which opponents of the plan are also complaining about)

Seems like former Greens leader Christine Milne is on a unity ticket with the Nationals in NIMBY opposition to big renewable projects www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/more-... #auspol

Iโ€™m sure thereโ€™ll be some interesting observations about Australian democracy but this line-up for the Boyer Lectures isnโ€™t very diverse. Not one young person or person w/ a non-European (who is also not First Nations) background. Theyโ€™d provide different perspectives

#Essential primaries in theory not on same scale as other polls because undecided left in. ALP 35 L-NP 27 Green 11 ON 13 TOP 2 IND/other 6 undecided 6

Their "2PP+" by respondent prefs ALP leads 51-44 (=53.7)
My 2025 prefs estimate 56.2 to ALP

The general platitudes in the book about more supply being good & trade-offs existing are fine but itโ€™s too simplistic & fails to grapple with how political economy shapes things (as well as being US-centric).

These comments from Milne donโ€™t suggest a nuanced position, just a blanket opposition + a degrowth mentality (and someone who doesnโ€™t know about the Jevons Paradox)

Even for a highly urbanised place like Sydney, potential rooftop solar capacity would max out at 75% of energy needs

30.09.2025 21:31 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Australiaโ€™s total solar rooftop potential is 2/3 of the anticipated energy capacity in 2050 (which also likely doesnโ€™t take into account what AI will do). This idea it can all be rooftop solar if we want to decarbonise is simply not feasible, weโ€™ll still need large scale renewables

Whatโ€™s even the point of Australian media outlets having foreign correspondents in places like the US when they donโ€™t even break the important stories that are primarily relevant to Australia?

Itโ€™s like how the @washingtonpost.com broke the story about Indian spies being expelled from Australia

Similar to Australian Labor in some regards but an important difference is that even with fiscal caution in the 1st term, ALP didnโ€™t pursue austerity & @albomp.bsky.social doesnโ€™t go around publicly denigrating the party voting base when thereโ€™s disagreement

Albaneseโ€™s Liverpool kiss is up there with Morrisonโ€™s MAGA rally The Australian PM had been making a virtue of not weighing in to the domestic politics of other countries. Then he stood up at UK Labourโ€™s annual conference.

When John Howard was Prime Minister, he participated in many International Democracy Union events overseas from 1996 onwards. He even was elected the chair in 2002 while Prime Minister so attended its annual forum overseas every year as Prime Minister. The sheer desperation of this #auspol beat-up

Iโ€™m of the view that @paologerbaudo.bsky.socialโ€™s argument that weโ€™ve shifted to sovereignty, control and protection being the key political battlegrounds captures the post-pandemic politics very well
