Full house last night at a panel discussion on Trump 2.0
A great conversation and engaged audience: signs of just how much interest there is in thinking through the United States’ relationships with the world. Thanks to LSE’s US Centre for organising

It was a pleasure to join Bloomberg News this morning to discuss Trump’s recent call with Xi and where US-China relations might be heading following the inauguration @bloomberg.com

That’s really nice to hear, thank you. Yes it feels like such a different period now. When I first started, in 2012, it didn’t feel quite as stark a difference. A good reminder of how much can change in a decade!

Thank you for reading! Westad and Chen were important intellectual influences even before I knew they were writing their new book!

I’m now starting ‘Made in China’ by @lizingleson.bsky.social, which traces the origins of US-China economic entanglement since the early 1970s, ie since Mao’s late reign. Perfect read alongside Westad/Chen, as it brings in the external dimension of China’s reform and opening up. Highly recommended.
