San Jose mayor says legislators ‘talking out of both sides of their mouths’ for demanding progress while cutting homelessness funding Mayors of San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland have warned that the loss of state homelessness funding could halt the progress they have made in getting residents of the streets.

Newsom doesn’t want to fund tough-on-crime law. Who should? California voters overwhelmingly approved a tough-on-crime ballot measure in the November election. Supporters now want at least $250 million to fund it. Gov. Gavin Newsom gave them nothing.

Here in San José, home to the largest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam, we honor the families who fled unimaginable hardship to seek freedom and opportunity, and who helped shape the city we are today.

Today marks 50 years since the Fall of Saigon — a moment of profound loss and remarkable resilience.

We’ve seen Todd Gloria in San Diego step up. We’ve seen Daniel Lurie in San Francisco step up. But too many of our smaller neighbors are stepping back. We cannot allow that. Because the only way we end unsheltered homelessness across California is together.
