I have spoken over the last few weeks with a number of Maine voters. They were all familiar with the claims about Plattner's tattoos and consorting with right-wing nutters. None of them cared in about these things. On the other hand, they were all very concerned about Gov Mills' age.

Katz wrote that Israeli warplanes were operating “stand-in above the skies of Tehran” during Operation Roaring Lion and that “an uninterrupted airlift will operate for the powerful strike on Tornado targets in Tehran,” under a plan approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He described the attacks as targeting “regime and repression targets in the heart of Tehran.” Israeli military correspondent Doron Kadosh previously reported that internal planning documents outlined a “Tornado Plan” approved on May 29 that called for attacking “a concentration of targets with ‘high visibility’ in a civilian environment in the heart of Tehran.” The plan was described as “a tool of response to heavy Iranian fire directed at Israeli population centers,” rooted in a logic of deterrence and intended in part to help bring the campaign to an end. The U.S. government is in the hands of a disturbed authoritarian who is surrounded by people who either share his delusions, are too sycophantic to confront him, or believe the president’s delusions serve just fine as a vehicle for their own zealotry and ideological extremism.

We must grapple with MAGA’s unreality as both a major impediment to the Right’s authoritarian project - as well as an acute threat for the republic, the international order, and, at the risk of sounding dramatic, literally everyone else on the planet.

Trump has been hemorrhaging public support. A smarter, more prudent regime would have changed tactics long ago. But the Trumpists keep doubling down. What may look like mere stubbornness is actually the result of significant structural weaknesses and ideological blind spots.
