When ur able to improvise without fear of "wrong notes", thats when u should start learning to be more intentional with it, thats when exercises like the chord tones become more useful

All these beginner improv tips like "just play chord tones" are actually really misleading IMO.

Cuz the biggest barrier to most people is actually the fear of making mistakes, and these kinds of tips just reinforce the idea that there are such a thing as wrong notes

the best way to get good at improvising is to get used to doing it badly in front of other people.

I would always prefer to listen to a confident improviser who hasn't got a clue, than someone whos learnt an entire "solo" by wrote

The fact that if u wanna stack more than 3 fifths you gotta go up to numbers like 17 makes it kinda awkward. i saw one page doing it like Cqi4 (for a quintal of 4 fifths), but this feels like it clashes with the typical way of notating chords where you count up diatonically from the root

how the hell do u notate quintal chords. I've been using them a lot, but i like to voice them as two maj2nd intervals a p5 apart. C6sus2? Cquint13???

I have nitpicks for ADSR envelopes. its hard to explain. they feel like a kinda useless envelope type for something so ubiquitous actually. Mostly I'm just using some combo of AD and AR envelopes to get the sounds i want
