Horas antes, el mandatario estadounidense había reiterado su confianza en que Putin aceptará el acuerdo. “Creo que estará de acuerdo. Realmente lo creo. Creo que le conozco bastante bien y que estará de acuerdo”, dijo en una entrevista pregrabada y difundida en el programa Full Measure. Si no lo acepta, añadió en esa entrevista, será una “mala noticia para el mundo, porque está muriendo mucha gente”. Trump también recordó que hay un acuerdo de cese de las hostilidades con Ucrania y que Washington está intentando cerrarlo también con Rusia. “Sabremos un poco más el lunes, y con suerte será bueno”, añadió el líder republicano. El pasado jueves, una delegación estadounidense encabezada por el representante estadounidense para Oriente Medio, Steve Witkoff, se reunió en Moscú con Putin para tratar la oferta de un alto el fuego de 30 días con Ucrania, acordada esta semana en Arabia Saudí entre Washington y Kiev. Trump dijo el viernes que hubo “conversaciones muy productivas” con su homólogo ruso y que hay “muchas posibilidades” de que acabe la guerra de Ucrania, provocada por la invasión de las tropas rusas hace tres años.
