Those of us who remember Iraq are feeling particularly cassandraic today.

This is literally the ballgame.

When I was young they used to go to the effort of lying to you about the need for their illegal war first, these lazy bastards didn't even fake one dossier or pressure a single weapons expert to kill himself, it's insulting

Yeah I don't have a take today, and I think everything would be a lot better if more people realised they don't either.

The best time to get the US Military out of Shannon Airport was 20 fucking years ago. The next best time is now.

β€œThe relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read.” (GNU Terry Pratchett)

Has there? I'm glad I missed it. Long Covid SUCKS.

I cannot describe to you the degree to which it sucks, and mine has mostly abated now (or is managed with meds in the case of my fried thyroid).

I do not wish to be part of LC Discourse: I will wheeze at you until you go away.

I've got it but I can't say I'm an expert! I'd like to sit down and figure it out properly. My wife gave me the game for Xmas 2024 because she knows it's my favorite Pratchett book (aww).

Night Watch is transcendent but I have to be in the frame of mind for the heft of it. Thud!, I can just read. I love the framing about words and narrative in it, and the game as a tool for the mystery and also the work of peace. It's wonderful.

I'm reading Discworld again for the first time in a couple of years. I think Thud! is still one of my top favourite books.

Next time you're in Bristol come see us about brunch.

27.02.2026 19:44 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There's a brunch place near here that does this. The food is genuinely great. The drinks are a full cocktail menu, cava, or beer. They come over before you finish your drink to start you on your next one. You roll home after two hours. It's more expensive but it is exceptionally worth it πŸ₯‚

Dear @lucympowell.bsky.social,

I have enjoyed our exchange of letters about which of our parties is best placed to stop Reform. Hannah Spencer MP and I trust that you agree that this question has now been resolved once and for all.

Thanks,
Zack Polanski

UN on the draft Statutory Guidance: "It is essential that the outcome of this process enables transgender people to live safe, dignified, and livable lives in the United Kingdom, while continuing to uphold robust protections for all women and girls against discrimination and violence."

My PhD student is so good, you guys. She's in final year and seeing her project coalesce is the most fulfilling thing.

i also really want to think about economic policy. they need to talk green jobs, cultural sector investment, radical education reform & digital sovereignty. This is the future the left needs to acc reconcile with; defending our big picture and having practical immediate steps to tackle inequality

27.02.2026 13:59 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The fact of the matter is I think dealing with Green MPs on trans stuff, migrants & Palestine will simply be easier than Labour or any other political party and until that changes I will be happy to see them succeed

living in a Green city, I think that they need to be bolder in local govt..

Reflecting today on the Green Party’s remarkable electoral innovation of selecting a candidate who is broadly likeable and is capable of making statements that sound vaguely human.

I have very much not finished a full draft of my current project and am therefore kicking myself slightly, but the words will only come at their own pace.

I think the key takeaway from this election is that all it takes to really unite academics of all disciplines is Matt Goodwin loosing very badly.

27.02.2026 10:16 β€” πŸ‘ 46    πŸ” 4    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

I mean surely we can all enjoy the most important thing: Matt Goodwin is unhappy.
