Trump's Unauthorized Strikes on Iran Take America's Imperial Presidency to New Heights Khamenei's departure is nothing to mourn but regime change might require more than air strikes

β€œArticle I of the Constitution gives Congress the exclusive power to declare war. This attack is very obviously large enough to qualify as a war. That means it just as obviously requires congressional authorization.”

please don't call this weakness or cowardice or whatever. schumer supports the war and wanted more cover than he got.

that's why dwelling on process stuff is ultimately a dead end: because even if every form was filled out correctly, this would still be an abomination.

A judge just tossed out Columbia University's disciplinary actions against 22 students over the 2024 Hamilton Hall occupation, finding the school relied on sealed arrest records and held individuals responsible for group actions, violating its own rules.

Once again, in actual democracies, people do not need to engage in permanent litigation & political mobilization to retain the basic right to vote, because none of the major political parties make restricting suffrage the central pillar of their policy platform. We also don't have to live like this.

Update/Scoopβ€” New guidance sent this AM to Kansas DMVs indicates licenses that previously had gender marker changed not actually invalid yet. However, internally DMV can see who is flagged, and keeping track of who has/hasn't come in to update. Seems about 300 trans/GNC ppl flagged across the state.

New poll: Democrats' real problem isn't being too liberal β€” it's being seen as too weak Americans, including swing voters, see the Republican Party as 20 points more extreme than Democrats β€” and the Democrats as weak and ineffective. So why would the *Democrats* moderate?

I don’t think that’s accurate. The real issue is that the immigration bar doesn’t understand what an outlier the system has been. When immigration cases are examined in federal court using the due process framework it’s a sharp contrast to how IJs and BIA decide cases.

Columbia President with NEW details:

5 DHS agents entered a residency with no warrant.

They said they were police looking for a missing kid.
Security camera even captures them showing pictures of the "kid."

A campus officer asked for a warrant & their boss.

They ignored him & took the student.

As noted, Rosen asserted in his email that "[t]he lawyers in my civil division
didn't deserve" the supposedly inaccurate January 28 order. Putting aside the fact that
the January 28 order was not inaccurate, Rosen failed to mention that this Court said the
following in the show-cause order that preceded the January 28 order:
The Court expresses its appreciation to attorney Ana Voss and her colleagues [in the civil division], who have struggled mightily to ensure that respondents comply with court orders despite the fact that respondents have failed to provide them with adequate resources.
ECF No. 7 at 2 n.1.
The judges of this District have been extraordinarily patient with the government
attorneys, recognizing that they have been put in an impossible position by Rosen and
his superiors in the Department of Justice (leading many of those attorneys- including, unfortunately, Ana Voss- to resign). What those attorneys "didn't deserve" was the
Administration sending 3000 ICE agents to Minnesota to detain people without making
any provision for handling the hundreds of lawsuits that were sure to follow.

If anything is "beyond the pale," it is ICE's continued violation of the orders of
this Court. Increasingly, this Court has had to resort to using the threat of civil
contempt to force ICE to comply with orders. The Court is not aware of another
occasion in the history of the United States in which a federal court has had to threaten
contempt -again and again and again - to force the United States government to comply
with court orders.

Columbia says DHS detained student after agents entered university building Acting university president says agents misrepresented themselves to gain entry to the residential building

NEW: ICE agents reportedly lied their way into Columbia housing, without a warrant, to arrest yet another student.

This comes almost one year after plainclothes ICE agents arrested Mahmoud Khalil at his Columbia residence, also without a warrant. ICE has no place on our campuses or in our streets.
