Trauma, in some cases, can be like Ellenβs curse, it spreads, it festers, & if left unaddressed, it continues its cycle of destruction. The film also explores themes of consent, the mental & medical treatment of women, female sexuality, sin, & sexual desire being sinful-all staples of vampire lore.

In that moment, she understands that the shame was never hers to bear. And yet, she alone has the power to end its hold over her.
