Opinion | Why Trumpโ€™s Fearmongering Is Falling Flat With Voters

Trump distracts by provoking fear & hatred. It might work if people were happy about the economy. But theyโ€™re not, so his tired diatribes show that the only thing he can deliver is fear itself. A presidency built on reruns is rapidly losing its audience.

Trumpโ€™s Epic Loss on Tariffs Is Even Worse for Him than You Think The Supreme Courtโ€™s stunning invalidation of most of the presidentโ€™s tariffs is another sign that Trumpist populist nationalism is in crisis.

What Trumpโ€™s immigration & tariff losses mean for his supposedly ascendant populist nationalism. โ€œTwo of that ideologyโ€™s most critical elements are driving his biggest policy fiascos and his cratering standing with the public.โ€

I hope conservative justicesโ€”including the Chiefโ€”who properly ruled against Trump on tariffs but gave him enormous unchecked power in the immunity case listened to his wild & unhinged screed against them & the rule of law. They should reconsider how much authority theyโ€™re willing to surrender to him

The #Patriots have brought me a lot of joy since they started in 1960. Many neighborhood friends stuck with the NFL teams they already rooted for (mostly the Y.A. Tittle Giants or the Bart Starr Packers) but I wanted our local guys, the Parilli-Cappelletti Pats. Still glad I did. #GoPats

Democrat wins special election for red Texas Senate seat With ballots tallied from all but a handful of voting centers, Rehmet had 57% of the vote, besting the 43% for his GOP opponent, Leigh Wambsganss, who had a massive spending advantage.

โ€œDemocrat and machinist union leader Taylor Rehmet won the special election Saturday to represent a solidly red Texas Senate district that President Donald Trump carried by 17 points in 2024.โ€

Democratic Senators are united in fighting Trump policies that led to the killings in Minneapolisโ€”including nearly all who opposed the last shutdown. Why? Because they see that Trump is destroying our constitutional order. Heโ€™s engineering regime change.

Very good framing by @ejdionne.bsky.social capturing the urgency of the Trump threat:

"Failing to confront whatโ€™s at stake would be a generational failure. The danger now is not alarmism but complacency."

EJ marshals lots of evidence of this from many different places and presents it well here:

The horrific killings in Minneapolis & Trumpโ€™s assault on the democratic alliance with Europe over Greenland are part of the same pattern of regime change: Unchecked presidential power linked to a larger project of destroying our institutions. That is the overriding issue now.
