It works pretty well, tho. The fact that more and more fests have this rule now, and many writers prefer it because they indeed were sad when their story was mostly ignored (being a wip), shows that it's not at all silly.

The only ones complaining are the ones joining 10 fests 🤷‍♂️

Regarding wips. (Since I am sure our fest back then was the first to have that rule and after that more followed)

It's because wip stories usually don't receive many interactions, and we thought the writers would be sad about it. Hence the rule. At the same time we lowered the min wordcount.

I'm trying to explain why some fests don't allow extensions, by not just saying "because they can"

But well...

I wrote many fics as well, I know how hard it is to finish something (sometimes). But please also think of the ones who could finish it on time and are patiently waiting to be revealed.

It's annoying if you are looking forward to be revealed but because of extensions you have to wait even longer.

The writers will gain a lot of new readers, will get likes and reads.

The fest has rules which are announced in the beginning. If you can't make it, don't join. Or only join one at the same time. If you can't make it in time, don't blame the mod

You also have to consider that the mods also have a life out of the fest, yet they're actively promoting the fest to gain a lot of followers.

In my opinion, writers cry a lot but they don't see how much work it is to host a fest. The host doesn't gain anything from it all. they wanna make sure

As someone who has hosted a fest, I can only tell you that being an admin you have to be strict. If not, the fest would never see an end. Most writers start writing a week before the deadline. Then they ignore the host when they can't make it, or they drop out last second... (Latter is ok, tho)

Well, usually a fest's writing period is between 5 months and a year. Most fests even give extensions of 1-3 weeks.

If you can't finish a fic within this period for whatever reason, you can always drop out. Just don't ghost the mods, who worked hard on this fest!

I used to write Jungkook in stories but I've read a lot of stories where the author used jeongguk. I wanna change it as well, but it could be that I'm falling back into my old habit 😩

In particular, detective Jeon Jeongguk, solving various cases.
