Steve, being a small business owner doesn't make you a capitalist β€” you can have a small business (maybe even a larger one) and even be anti-capitalist.

Just don't:
- Exploit your workers
- Have opaque wage structures
- Focus on private profit over community benefit

Yes, this is simplifying things

Massive opportunity to fill the gap here.
Will it be a new community-owned scheme, or something for @london.gov.uk or TFL to take over?

This comparison in the article stood out to me as slightly random:
"China generated 1,826 terawatt-hours of wind and solar electricity in 2024, five times more than the energy contained in all 600 of its nuclear weapons."

β€œWe've been made to believe that the greatest fight of our generation is to destroy everything our forefathers left us: tradition, privacy, sovereignty, the free market, and free speech.”

Yikes.

But the messages also include invitations to join in a reactionary movement for a nostalgic past, against the *checks notes* evils of liberal democracies in Europe with their censoring online safety laws.

No mention of censorship in Russia or other states. No mention of misuse of tech platforms.

Pardon my ignorance, but there is already the third National Adaptation Plan. (which is critiqued as lacking)

What are the specifics of a resilience plan in comparison?

Labour MPs today call for new legislation to extend a right of responsible access to more English landscapes, and for the right to swim and wild camp to be enshrined in law

A newspaper article with the headline: β€œNew grant to push sales of electric cars for net zero”. The strapline reads: β€œGovernment offers up to Β£3,750 off new vehicles”. The article, written by Ben Clatworthy and Will Dron, discusses a new UK government scheme offering up to Β£3,750 for motorists switching to electric vehicles (EVs). The grant applies to EVs with a list price under Β£37,000 and will be available until 2029. It is part of a Β£650 million initiative aimed at increasing EV adoption to meet net zero targets.

Key points include:
β€’	Models made in Britain will get higher grants.
β€’	Chinese-made EVs like BYDs will be excluded.
β€’	The grant is applied at the point of sale.
β€’	About 80–90% of new cars are bought on finance.
β€’	The scheme is not means-tested.
β€’	Tesla, Polestar, and high-end BMW, Audi, and Mercedes models are ineligible.
β€’	Past grants offered up to Β£4,500 between 2016–2018.
β€’	Only 15,474 EVs were registered in 2018, compared to 381,970 last year.
β€’	Private buyers accounted for just under 20% of EV sales.
β€’	The policy supports Labour’s goal to ban new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and may later include plug-in hybrids.

Yet again, the UK gov chooses to subsidise the least effective way of reaching net zero. Imagine if did this for cargo bikes instead, effectively halving the price of bikes that can replace the majority of these cars - especially 2nd cars - and funding car sharing schemes instead for longer journeys

The cover of the book Parable of the Sower.

Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.

"The date at which (the spike) in engagement occurs coincides with Elon Musk's formal endorsement of Donald Trump on 13th July 2024."
