‘Carry-On’ is a First-Class Holiday Action Thriller (Review) - 615 Film This Christmas Eve thriller now streaming on Netflix is Die Hard for a new generation.

Netflix’s CARRY-ON doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it operates in an old school fashion that makes for a far more entertaining film than a majority of this year’s releases.

Arguably the biggest omission this awards season is consideration for Alicia Witt in LONGLEGS. When you look at the field for Best Supporting Actress, she’s head and shoulders above everyone else. #FilmSky

Direction, score, and cinematography each deserve their own individual flowers in a film where I never once felt its three-and-a-half-hour runtime. As I mentioned last night, what a picture. Goodness.

The first half of the film is impeccable; some of the best stuff I’ve seen in some time. The second half is really good and I don’t think it brings down the movie at all. It’s just that the first half of the film is so good and impossible to match when the film continues.

At the center of this story who tries to balance both of these things is Adrien Brody’s László, a prime example of an imperfect human in a performance that may very well land the actor his second much-deserved Oscar here in a few months.

THE BRUTALIST: A sweeping epic about the pursuit of the American Dream and how cruel it can be while also seeking perfection at the risk of losing everything. Another unforgettable example of filmmaking showing us how this country’s foundation was laid at the expense of others.

This evening will be the final in-person screening of the year for me and I’m hopeful it’ll end on a high note..

There is so much to love and appreciate in NOSFERATU, which is one of the year’s best. It’s a technical marvel, a great homage to the 1922 classic, and a culmination of Robert Eggers’ career. And Bill Skarsgård? Exceptionally frightening as Count Orlok. Loved it. #FilmSky

I love Timothée (and in this house we call him HIMothée). He’s one of our bright hopes for the future of cinema. But his performance in A COMPLETE UNKNOWN is just good - not awards-worthy.

It’s A COMPLETE UNKNOWN as to what recently happened to director James Mangold between his lame duck Indiana Jones movie and now his Bob Dylan narrative feature, which is fine but fairly standard, repetitive and features two great female performances that top Timothée Chalamet’s. #FilmSky

‘Flow’ is a Breathtaking Animated Masterpiece (Review) - 615 Film A black cat must learn to coexist with other animals after a devastating flood in this animated film from Latvia.

FLOW being able to stand out in the strongest year for animated features in recent memory says a lot about this special film from Latvia.

Opens at @belcourttheatre.bsky.social this week and is not to be missed.

I usually don’t care if our market gets screenings for films before they’re released to the public. But I will admit I’m irritated seeing people brag about seeing NOSFERATU multiple times over a month before it’s out while the studio won’t even bother to set up a screening here.

There’s the Will Levis we all know.

After a slow start, this turned out to be a dominant win against a red-hot Winnipeg team. Easily the best win of the season and I’m glad I was in attendance for it.
