Alt: The image is a composite of black-and-white portraits of various Ontario Premiers arranged in repeating rows against a purple background. Over the portraits is text. First, large yellow text reading: "Housing". Followed by white text in a list: "Do not reintroduce Bills 238 and 242 to further policing and other powers to undermine the safety and wellbeing of unhoused disabled people. Amend the Building Code to reflect Inclusive and Universal Design Standards, along the lines of Torontoβs Accessible, Affordable Housing Specifications. Implement full rent control across Ontario: - Scrap the 2018 Rent Control Exemption for new builds; - End Vacancy Decontrol; and - Eliminate Above Guideline Rent Increases Fund and develop diverse, accessible, affordable housing supply through public housing and cooperatives, along with low-barrier βactually supportiveβ housing options. Redirect funding for prison expansion projects (like Kemptville) to more housing!"
Friends, one of the biggest issues during this election has been Housing. Disabled Ontarians are among those most impacted by Ontario's failure to build accessible housing, ensure full rent control, and we are under direct attack through policing of unhoused disabled folks.

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

22.01.2025 16:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In Canada, we don't have formalized regional land-use and transportation planning structures. It is more ad-hoc, unlike the MOP structure in the US.
Came across a recent working paper that details some transferable lessons from their system to Canada. A School of Cities (UofT) paper. Interesting!

π€ Fossil-fuel driven climate change is making insuring certain 'property markets' unprofitable. Insurers known this. But de-risking and reg. caps can extend coverage to riskier properties at a cost to everyone's premiums (insurers operate globally and profit-seek)... Is this status-quo worth saving?

Key takeaways β:
1) access to care is much lower with sustainable modes than by car, and even lower with spatial availability (considers competition).
2) The existing road network offers surprisingly good potential access for cycling compared to other modes.
