When I was a burned-out and disaffected film major at USC in the very early nineties, I wrote a poem titled "I Hate Citizen Kane." I was just trying to feel something. I get it. I would like to tell the bluecheck bozo: This, too, shall pass, and ideally pass quickly.

Great film, though I always thought it should end with Melanie Griffith ditching our hero in the Nevada desert (ideally leaving him with a Pepsi) and flying off with Cherry herself.

Yes! There definitely are whiskeys made with oat mash. (I would *assume* there are oat vodkas as well, since vodka-making is a process that can be kinda done with anything, but I haven't investigated.)

Aw, no. Sad news. (He friended me on Facebook because of my Liquid Sky review, which still blows my mind.)

Quick Thought on Your Book

Hi [Author's Name],
I recently came across your book and spent some time looking through how you're positioning it online. First off, congratulations on putting your work out there, that's no small thing.

While going through your launch and visibility approach, I noticed a couple of interesting opportunities that could potentially expand your reach beyond your current audience.
Out of curiosity, are you currently focusing more on organic promotion, or have you explored any structured marketing strategies for consistent sales?

I'd love to hear what's been working for you so far.

Triptych of Facebook Reels: 1) a judgy woman with the caption "I can tell you have FATTY LIVER just by looking at you." 2) a judgy man with the caption "7 Things Women with Undiagnosed Autism thing are Normal but are actually signs of Masking." 3) a super-judgy man with the caption "Gen X should be ashamed."

I logged into Facebook for the first time in a while, and I was immediately greeted by a barrage of suggested (yet very pointed) Facebook Reels that are being EXTREMELY JUDGMENTAL of me.

On season one of Top Chef Just Desserts, the eventual winner, Yigit Pura, was born in Turkey but spoke unaccented American English. He was very handsome and charming and cool, but there was one episode where he got pissed off and started yelling, and he suddenly became Balki Bartokomous. Glorious.

We had an elderberry bush in the backyard of my childhood home, and my sister and I used to eat handfuls of raw berries every summer. I can't imagine the amount of cyanide in my system from that.

Mine had a Waldenbooks AND a B Dalton. That's been my gold standard for malls ever since: two bookstores.

YES. I hate getting everything via mail order. My kingdom for a good mall, anchored on the ends by department stores, with a bookstore (ideally two), a record store, a video store (a girl can dream), a movie theater, and a food court on the top level.

2025 Bram Stoker Awards Final Ballot The Horror Writers Association (HWA) has announced the final ballot for the 2025 Bram Stoker Awards. Superior Achievement in a Novel Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, Grady HendrixΒ (Berkley) King Sorro…

I got the call from @laneheymont.bsky.social this morning, but this is the first time I've seen it in print: GIRL IN THE CREEK is a Stoker finalist for Best Novel!

I have to look at it again, because it's almost impossible to believe my eyes.

Middle name: Elsbeth. It's a family name: both my aunt and a great grandmother are Elsbeths. I like it, though it gets tiring explaining that it's not "Elizabeth." Unique enough that when The Mandalorian introduced a character named Morgan Elsbeth, I checked the credits to see if I knew the writer.

Little Red Flags: Stories of Cults, Cons, and Control Twenty-one tales of frightening fanaticism! Nobody joins a cult. They find a family, a movement, a sense of meaning. And nobody falls for a con. They trust a friend, a so-called expert, an opportunity...

Hi, Gabino!

Today I want to shout out this anthology. My contribution is something I call a "fan folk horror" and deals with the question of what to do when death of the author doesn't come fast enough.

Ooo! The World Is Not Enough would be a glorious song to skate to, maybe paired with an outfit based on Shirley's slinky red gown in the video.

I had a YouTube series in which I dissected, one by one, in chronological order, every single Miami Vice episode. I don't know why anyone watched it, nor do I care; I know why I made it.
