In honor of the victims, survivors, and their loved ones, I'll never stop fighting for the safer future they deserve.

In the face of such tragedy, Nevadans summoned hope and demanded change—and their lawmakers listened, passing several lifesaving gun laws. This progress was crucial, but there is more work to be done.

My heart aches for the 60 people killed eight years ago today at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas—and the hundreds more who were injured. No family should ever carry this pain.

We know that more can be done to save lives and prevent targeted violence. Our leaders, on both sides of the aisle, must act now, before yet another community is altered forever by a horrific mass shooting.

Today’s news of a shooting in Grand Blanc, Michigan attacking the Latter-day Saints community during worship is devastating. Families deserve safety wherever they are, but being targeted while practicing one’s faith is especially horrific.

Today I met with Colorado lawmakers, community violence intervention advocates, and the recipients of the @giffords.org 2025 Lifesaving Service Award: Life-Line Colorado.

I know what it means to be shot in the head, to have doctors say survival is unlikely, and to fight for every step of recovery. Hearing that 12-year-old Sophia is healing is a miracle. I’m praying for her recovery and for the strength of her family 💜

While we await more information, it’s clear our country is in the middle of a gun crime crisis—and I urge our leaders to take action immediately.

My heart breaks for the victims of this morning’s shooting at a Dallas ICE facility. On top of enduring this administration’s cruel and inhumane immigration policy, these families have now seen loved ones killed or injured in a violent and awful way.

This year especially, I hope we extend grace, reach across divides, and work for safer, healthier, more just communities. May our prayers and our actions be filled with compassion and intention.

Since surviving an assassination attempt nearly 15 years ago, I see the New Year differently. What was once routine is now a miracle—each one a victory over despair, a reminder never to take life for granted.

As we gather to welcome Rosh Hashanah, I feel deep gratitude for the gift of a new year. Every sunrise, every turn of the calendar, is a reminder that life is fragile—and precious. ✡️🍎🍯

I call on my colleagues in Washington to show courage, not cowardice. I call on them to do the single most important thing they can for their constituents: keep them safe.

So I want to speak plainly to my former colleagues in Congress: Do something. Take action. Pray also if you want, but understand: your job is action.

It is physically very hard for me to speak due to my injuries from getting shot, and after watching yet another political shooting violently steal someone’s life before our eyes, it’s even harder to find words.

Our stories are unique, but what Charlie Kirk, President Trump, Melissa Hortman and I all have in common is that someone who wanted to kill us had a gun.

Just as Melissa Hortman, the Speaker of the Minnesota State Legislature, deserved to be safe at home with her husband. Just as President Trump had the right to campaign without fear of being assassinated. Just as I had the right to meet with my constituents safely on January 8, 2011.

I mourn for Charlie Kirk’s family. I didn’t agree with almost anything he said, but he had a right to go on a work trip and return safely to his wife and two young children.

Like all Americans, he deserved to be safe from gun violence.

At just nine-years-old, Christina-Taylor was a leader at her school, a talented dancer, and a budding public servant who dreamed of making the world a better place.

I carry her memory with me as I work to build the safer future she believed in and deserved.

Today, I’m thinking of Christina-Taylor Green on her 24th birthday.

She should be celebrating with her friends and family, but her life was stolen from her in January 2011 when she was shot while waiting to meet me.

The responsibility to protect our public servants, political figures, and all Americans is not partisan. It’s patriotic—and long overdue. Congress must take action, now.

This summer alone, both Democrats and Republicans have been assassinated in heinous acts of political violence. It’s terrifying, and has no place in a democracy.

The murder of Charlie Kirk breaks my heart. My deepest sympathies are with his wife, two young children, and friends.

Attacks against political or ideological opponents are cowardly and un-American, and must be universally condemned.

I'm horrified to hear that Charlie Kirk was shot at an event in Utah.

Democratic societies will always have political disagreements, but we must never allow America to become a country that confronts those disagreements with violence.

Mark and I are praying for Charlie's recovery.
