Dear Attorney General Bondi: On February 10, 2025, I received a memorandum from acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, directing me to dismiss the indictment against Mayor Eric Adams without prejudice, subject to certain conditions, which would require leave of court. The following communications may resume if in compliance with EOs: communications on urgent public health needs with immediate threats, travel health notices, website updates, day to day communication with research partners in cooperative agreements. Communication with research partners in contractual agreements is still paused. Papers in conflict with EOs that have been accepted for publication and cannot be edited must be withdrawn (if all authors from CDC) or CDC authors must remove their names (if some authors are external). Authors must document their attempts to withdraw papers or remove their names. Authors may not communicate with journals or co-authors re papers submitted to a journal after 1/20/25. Authors may not submit new papers to journals. No publication fees can be paid due to funding freeze.

The “short pause” on communication from CDC is entering its third week. While we are happy to see a new MMWR, this was a hard-fought exception. Sweeping and ambiguous executive orders continue to cause confusion and inconsistency. Please see the latest guidance some of us received.
