Relatedly — how do I convince people that I genuinely don’t care about following the standard, accepted rules?

Working on a large project that regularly reminds me that I was not made for capitalism. Doing it the way you’re “supposed” to keeps me awake at night. Doing it in a way that works for me makes the other people involved look at me like I have two heads.

Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, et al. folks – looking for a foster family for a dog and two cats until they’re owner can find housing again. Know of anyone?

I imagine you’ve seen this thread already but just in case…

Even if I do notice that while I’m out what am I supposed to do when someone at the table next to me has recorded my entire conversation? Odds are if they pulled out their phone the business would kick them out. With glasses…what’s my recourse? The surreptitious nature of it makes it creepy.

“There’s a red light so you’ll know” further shifts the responsibility to the person who may not notice and hasn’t consented to being recorded. No one should have to be hypervigilant about checking the glasses of the people sitting at other tables of a restaurant.

For me it’s a difference of degrees and the degrees matter. Our right to privacy is already a joke. Making it easier for individual people & corporations to further erode it and use our likeness for whatever they like matters.

- What the person and/or Google does with those recordings is entirely outside of your control. Consent matters.

I see a couple of important distinctions.

- If someone’s filming you with their phone you’re more likely to be aware of it and able to remove yourself.
- The difference between being recorded by a business security camera and a rando recording your voice and mannerisms via Google glasses is big.

An example of how rarely Seattle folks use their car.

Me: Sorry I’m late! Someone was parked at the stop sign.
Therapist: I heard a honk and assumed it was you.

The season of massive murders of crows swarming has begun so I’m homebound for two weeks or so.

I started watching because a friend’s husband was on the season 9 premiere episodes. Immediately went to season 1 episode 1 and binged real hard. So ridiculous and fun.

Oh this is a very good thing of which I am exceptionally jealous.

I would mostly use that to watch/read my favorites for the first time over and over again. 😂

I love not knowing – it’s an invitation to learn. Getting an answer is so very different from learning. Learning is so much better.

I think about this comic a lot. There was a time (gods I’m officially old) when you couldn’t find an answer in seconds. At some point not knowing a thing became bad.

Not knowing is now so terrible we’d rather believe that AI knows The Answer no matter how impossible that is.

This feels unfortunately relevant.

Speaking broadly — Having sympathy for the impacts of CTE and TBIs is easier because it’s unlikely to happen to the average person. Everyone is vulnerable to strokes and there’s not much you can do to avoid them. So we defend against our risk by denying how it impacts people who’ve had one.

5 minutes into Wheel of Time’s third season and I’m already enraged over its cancellation. The show is perfect – curse Jeff Bezos a thousand times over.
