The most likely outcome is a wrongful arrest settlement paid out in about 3-10 years and no action taken against any police officer. c.f. every previous time they've done something similar.

The reason that protesters don't get massacred in the US is because the state is traditionally very worried about what the response would be if that happened. It's not benign institutional protection of the public but fear of repercussions if certain lines were crossed.

There has been at least one national guard shooting during a protest since Kent State - David McAtee in Louisville in 2020, although he wasn't protesting or particularly near a protest at the time.

They controlled Ed Miliband's policy programme when he was leader, and also have close ties to Rachel Reeves. It's not about 'appealing to voters', rather they ventriloquise voters in order to push their own reactionary politics. It's only a faction of the higher echelons of the Labour Party.

Given mRNA cancer treatments coming through in the past couple of years it'd probably cost less.

And here we go with the typical process of Democrats draining the rebellious potential of grassroots anger by just using it to give money and electoral/political support for one of the two parties that are responsible for the abysmal state of USA and the world (including, especially, Gaza/Palestine)

There's a long history of blockades and sabotage in the US. One of the bigger examples would be overturned trains during the 1894 Pullman strike, which was often done by people who lived near the lines rather than the strikers themselves.

There's a non-zero chance these are fascists adopting a vegan persona rather than vegan fascists, although I guess the only real distinction between those two things would be their actual diet so there is no way to find out.

Eastern Ukraine conflict: against the regime in Kiev and the junta in the east - Autonomous Workers Union As Ukraine slides towards civil war, anarchist group Autonomous Workers Union appeals to the working class to reject both sides and instead fight for their common class interests.

From the same archive but different authors. More critical but definitely identifies the separatist movement as far right libcom.org/article/east...

'Libertarian in spirit': the left and Maidan Activists met in Kyiv to discuss the lessons of their participation in the Maidan movement. This report is by Kirill Buketov of the Global Labour Institute. We do not necessarily agree with its conten...

There were reports at the time. I think this one is fairly pro libcom.org/article/libe... but also there was more critical stuff that also took it and the reaction seriously.

People keep saying "I can't believe the British government is going to make piracy legal but only for huge companies!" and can't help thinking "Have you heard of the East India Company."

Also not sure it needs to be a future utopia. Like they could say if trillions of people experience happiness for one day each that's worth tens of billions of people experiencing starvation/dysentary for most of their lives etc.

Yes which I think is sufficiently controversial and reactionary?

I mean it's also a blatant cover for extremely short termist things like you described too, same with 'effective altruism' which turns out to mean 'become the top of a pyramid scheme'.

'longtermism' in this context means for Musk e.g. space colonisation which then justifies any amount of carnage on earth if it means people end up living in space colonies in the end.

The current chancellor of the exchequer said there'd be race riots if immigration didn't come down and wrote an entire glowing chapter about a nazi in her book so it's not as if he's some kind of exception in the Labour Party.

In the UK plenty of union leaders broke strikes then became Labour MPs. Republicans is maybe more of a stretch but a career move via a friendly administration (to him) is not.

John Prescott: The Blairite bulldog who forgot the working class - Freedom News The former Deputy Prime Minister weaponised his northern roots and trade union affiliations to enable neoliberal Labour and its wars ~ Uri Gordon ~ John Prescott, the plainspoken northern bruiser who ...

Prescott leaned into his northern roots and trade union affiliations with unflagging zeal, and weaponised this image to give the Blair government a free pass for mass privatisation, devastating wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and a surveillance society at home.
