The most likely outcome is a wrongful arrest settlement paid out in about 3-10 years and no action taken against any police officer. c.f. every previous time they've done something similar.
17.09.2025 17:08 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The reason that protesters don't get massacred in the US is because the state is traditionally very worried about what the response would be if that happened. It's not benign institutional protection of the public but fear of repercussions if certain lines were crossed.
08.06.2025 21:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There has been at least one national guard shooting during a protest since Kent State - David McAtee in Louisville in 2020, although he wasn't protesting or particularly near a protest at the time.
08.06.2025 21:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0They controlled Ed Miliband's policy programme when he was leader, and also have close ties to Rachel Reeves. It's not about 'appealing to voters', rather they ventriloquise voters in order to push their own reactionary politics. It's only a faction of the higher echelons of the Labour Party.
02.05.2025 16:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Given mRNA cancer treatments coming through in the past couple of years it'd probably cost less.

23.03.2025 16:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And here we go with the typical process of Democrats draining the rebellious potential of grassroots anger by just using it to give money and electoral/political support for one of the two parties that are responsible for the abysmal state of USA and the world (including, especially, Gaza/Palestine)
23.03.2025 16:38 β π 5 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0There's a long history of blockades and sabotage in the US. One of the bigger examples would be overturned trains during the 1894 Pullman strike, which was often done by people who lived near the lines rather than the strikers themselves.
22.03.2025 21:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Various Grayzone guys and also Vijay Prashad have been pro '56 crackdown for some years now.
21.03.2025 07:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Didn't the SP support his leadership campaign? Probably some others too.
21.03.2025 07:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There's a non-zero chance these are fascists adopting a vegan persona rather than vegan fascists, although I guess the only real distinction between those two things would be their actual diet so there is no way to find out.

16.03.2025 08:22 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There were reports at the time. I think this one is fairly pro libcom.org/article/libe... but also there was more critical stuff that also took it and the reaction seriously.

15.02.2025 20:40 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0People keep saying "I can't believe the British government is going to make piracy legal but only for huge companies!" and can't help thinking "Have you heard of the East India Company."
16.01.2025 07:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also not sure it needs to be a future utopia. Like they could say if trillions of people experience happiness for one day each that's worth tens of billions of people experiencing starvation/dysentary for most of their lives etc.
25.12.2024 22:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes which I think is sufficiently controversial and reactionary?
I mean it's also a blatant cover for extremely short termist things like you described too, same with 'effective altruism' which turns out to mean 'become the top of a pyramid scheme'.
'longtermism' in this context means for Musk e.g. space colonisation which then justifies any amount of carnage on earth if it means people end up living in space colonies in the end.
25.12.2024 21:34 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Doesn't transhumanism also include brain chips and blood harvesting?
25.12.2024 21:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Prince Andrew should be designated an 'enhanced risk'. Never mind China.
16.12.2024 22:29 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The current chancellor of the exchequer said there'd be race riots if immigration didn't come down and wrote an entire glowing chapter about a nazi in her book so it's not as if he's some kind of exception in the Labour Party.
15.12.2024 09:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In the UK plenty of union leaders broke strikes then became Labour MPs. Republicans is maybe more of a stretch but a career move via a friendly administration (to him) is not.

21.11.2024 23:33 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Prescott leaned into his northern roots and trade union affiliations with unflagging zeal, and weaponised this image to give the Blair government a free pass for mass privatisation, devastating wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and a surveillance society at home.
