“Can I get a facepalm!”

The drafting film was translucent, and you could see the sketch right through it. It took to acrylics really well.
I have to credit that trick to the late Don Punchatz.

The actual sketches are small, little more than a rough. I made good use of the copy machine at the office to blow them up, to actual painting size. I could also cut out picture elements and arrange them. Then I’d tape it on the back of the drafting film and start painting over that.

Thanks man! That was a fun one, and I think one of my better covers. It was done with acrylics on Hercules Drafting Film, if I remember correctly.
I sometimes revisit my covers, but this one doesn’t need to be updated.

If someone ever says to me that Bond Villains are unrealistic or over-the-top I’m just going to punch them in the face.

I think that works better with Large Vomit Models.

You could barely call it lip-sync, but at the time it was thing! I also worked on the intro cinematic for U9 with the Avatar getting blasted on the mountain top!
